The stock GSX_R front guard on my bike finally completely shat itself so I got me a nice R1 jobbie to go on in its stead.

Naturally it doesn't go even close to fitting the stock mounting points so I am left with the option of just cutting the lower mount off completely.

Is there a downside to this that I have not considered? Will it be similar to dividing by zero?

Can you make a spacer/tab that can attach to the point you marked out above and also join to the mudguard point? That way you have more secure attachment.

btw... item arrived yesterday... thanks heaps again mate.

The only downside would be if you ever wanted to re-fit a Suzuki guard.....

Or if you ever wanted to sell the front end it wouldn't have the original guard mounts.....

That's 2 actually.....

And yes - always divide by zero before you do anything rash.

No, that is the problem.
The R1 guard is a lot smaller and that bottom mount actually sits lower than the guard itself.

I was never a fan of the stock guard anyway. I always thought they were way too big.

Resale may be an issue though...

Do all three holes line up? If so, make a straight price and go through all three holes. Saves cutting shit

Price = piece

Haha, nothing lines up!

Something like this seems to be the only viable option:

left the bottom lug on mine, incase i ever fitted
SV1000 or similar guard or used the front end on my other frame.
Yeah, you can see it, but I try not to lose sleep over it.

Then again... chop it off.

Its only a front guard, cant be that hard to fix something up...[:0]

Parts, yes. Overall, no.
The core of the bike (engine, frame & tank) will always remain but the supplementary things will come and go, so there is definitely a passing thought for their value beyond the bike.
