gday folks, got a new project on the line these days. its a june 2009 SVF650 gladius. its not mine, but its my wifes bike, its about the only bike that she can touch the ground with (only just) in stock form, so we bought it, i was never too keen on its suspension nor styling, so fuck it i thought, time to change it...

its only done 1000km so far... lol

currently in the middle of doing a GSXR front end conversion..... still a bit to do, but nearly done.

pressed stems out, and have fitted an ABM GSXR style top triple clamp to retain the straight bars. also tossed the gay as aids factory handle bars for some sweet ABM items as well...

still yet to fabricate new brackets and spacers to mount ignition, clocks, and headlight.

pics!

already done a gsxr rear shock conversion.

http://media8.dropshots.com/photos/173708/20091108/154451.jpg

clearences are tight but everything does clear safely.

theres 3mm between the bolt and the dog bone and 4mm between the shocks reserviour and the frame rail.

ive got plenty of ermax panels waiting to be fitted to, and im trying to convince my wife that it needs a new headlight, but she likes it, so i'll leave that to her.

off to get the seat re-trimmed and skimmed down a little so deb can touch the ground easier. (even tho bikes been lowered 30mm rear and 22 front)

shall keep you all updated.

looking good mate. what year front end is that?

if it is 06 gix 600/750 do you no what the differences are in the fork legs and axles?

wanting to put 06 onwards fork legs in my 05 600 race bike so that i can use ohlins front cartridges and they only make them for 06 onwards forks.

any info would be tops mate

crazymofo

fimp: yeah still got them mate.

TK: i got the next lot of mods in the mail today, thankyou for that ;) , ive convinced the missus its a good idea, didnt take much, just showed her some rims that we could use lol.
ive been busy with work but shall ship your parts to you on monday arvo.

gitzy: twas transfered this morning so [:P] to you lol

deano: its a k7 750 front end. as for the 04/05-> k6/k9 600 fronts they are different in the axles, however you can use k6 forks, just use a k6/k9 axle and spacer, your k4/k5 wheel shall fit no problems,
you may need to space the calipers, but i dont think so provided you use the k4/k5 wheel, as the k4/k5 had the smaller discs on front then the k6, 300 Vs 310mm

pretty sure that covers all, any more questions just ask, as i have a k4/k5 axle here along with a k8 axle, i'll have some K2 wheels here for 2 more days and i also have the k7 forks, so between all that im sure i could get you any measurement you need.

cheers.joe.

Deano
27-11-2009, 04:37 PM
you are a good man.

my plan would be to run the k4/5 triples so need the measurements for the triple comparison like fork diameters for top and bottom triples.

also if i use the k4/5 triples with k6 onwards fork legs can i use the k4/5 axle or are the diameters different where the axle goes through the fork?

i plan to use k4/5 wheels and discs they are 300mm diameter

any help would be super thanks mate

Deano Also if you find your part numbers for the dif parts and models on here...

http://fiche.ronayers.com/

and you enter the part number in the "Where does this part fit?" section here..

http://www.ronayers.com/

it will tell you what parts can be interchanged with which model and year..
eg.. front axle 04 Gixer 1000 = 54711-35F10

check out what this zook front axle fits..

hope this helps..

ROFL! i used to get looks from people when i rode the last bike my wife owned..

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h128/no-loyalty/Coolen%20File/debs_gsxr_t.jpg

shame its dead now, was a brilliant little bike :( the new owner wrote it off a week after she took keys with only 500 more k's then what she bought it with.

anyways, deano....

use your stock triples. they will take all k4 or newer gixxer forks
k6 forks and axle/spacer (the k6 has smaller fork leg diameter of where the axle passes thru the fork bottom, cos the bolt screws into the axle end, where as the K4/K5 the bolt screws over the end of the axle.
use k4/k5 wheel
k4/k5 calipers.

so basicly all you need is forklegs and axle/spacer from a k6-k9.

there is an alternative.... remove the fork bottoms on the k4/k5 and fit them to the k6 forks..... they fit right up! meaning all you run is all k4/k5 parts just in K6 tubes.

to be honest, i didnt think the forks were any different dimension wise between k4-k9 as they are the usual showa items, so i'd dare say the ohlins internals shall bolt right into the older fork legs.

cheers.joe.

apparently sleeving is possible. Spoke to Ben yesterday and he said the smallest he has managed is .5mm sleeve.

anything is possible!

its easy to shim the lower, go to a sheet metal shop and have them cut some 0.55 stainless into a strip then rolled into a cylinder... job done. it'll go 0.1mm over size but just expand the clamps a little when it comes time to fit.

fuck it i can do it at work if you get stuck

what about using the k/4 fork bottoms where the axle clamps in, on the k6 forks?

Joe, you are best using ally sheet, the difference in electrical potential between the yoke and the stainless sleeve could cause serious corrosion problems if there is any water ingress.

gday folks, a little update,

still waiting on the wheel to arrive to finish off the front end conversion. but everything else is ready and waiting.

we've sent the seat off to be re-shaped (lower) and re-covered in a little more slippery fabric then the current stick like shit to a blanket covering that is on the stocker.

also sent some bits off to be painted (side covers- i still would like to flick them, but deb wants them on.... her bike lol ) and the k7 gsxr750 front guard.

fitted pazzo levers, the top triple is ABM, the bars are ABM streetbike's, and oberon bar ends, and a full 2 line set of hel braided lines.

have also bought some k8 style sv650 oberon pegs, will need a little tweak to fit.

anyways back to the fork conversion,

i am of the view there is 3 mod paths you can go down....

1: bolt on- in front ends for example, you could fit some emulators, springs and oil to the stocks and be happy enough
2: off the shelf: do the gsxr fork conversion. but then just use generic aftermarket gauges/lights and their brackets to make it all work.
3: do the conversion, make it look factory...... thats my kind of modding.....

done some more work, the current exhaust arrangements are only temporary, theres something else im keen to make for the exhaust yet, just need to decide what swingarm conversion im going to do first.

this weekends work was to eliminate the farking god awful footpeg/pillion peg hangers...... i think i succeeded nicely if i do say so myself.

deb attacked some warning labels with the hairdryer and her finger nails.

next stop... swingarm conversion..... wont be a simple one either, as the short list of arms i like the look off arent exactly a straight fit...

after that i'll be chasing some power mods... what ive got in mind, will hopefully bring out an extra 10-15hp

more pics for now.... enjoy.

ok guys, ive been a little slow with doing the swingarm conversion, with my attention being focused on my racebike and getting geared up for racing. but.... had some time off work today, so i nailed down some serious work...

i have the swingarm in place and bolted thru the frame, made a few spacers either side and a 1 off dust seal/cover for the rhs bearing, also made a retaining circlip to help support the outer bearing better.

still using the SFV linkage, and the gsxr rear shock, but, to make it all work, ive had to notch out the swingarm and re-plate it where the shock goes thru the swingarm hole. (pics to follow in the next few days ). also made new spacers to space out the lower linkage bolt to the correct width of the swingarms dogbone mount, this has freed up more room, so i am returning to the standard lower shock bolt, since it was subbed out for the initial GSXR rear shock conversion. (why not.... better with factory bolt where ya can i say)

the rear wheel required complete new set of spacers, and cush sleave, i swaped out the bearings and dust seals for some kawasaki items to make it all work.

currently awaiting a rear caliper to come from US.

next step, make a new exhaust system, im wanting to make a custom under muffler set up but deb is keen to keep the Ti/Carbon yoshi we bought when we first got the bike, wonder if i can sell it for a good price she will let me do the under muffer box? he he.

once the pipes are done, i then will detail it all properly and do the final fit out.

anywhoo.... PICS!!! (will have more detailed pics for you in next week or so)

thanks for the words blokes,

fimp the arm is actually shorter then the original bridge girder... its rediculous how long the stocker is, the zx6r one is 20mm shorter in length, yet the bikes wheelbase is still longer then my gsxr1000 lol.

im using an 05 zx6r arm, with an 07 gsxr600 rear wheel, i'll eventually ugrade it again to a gsxr1000 rim to make use of 190/200 tyres ;)

cheers.joe.

ok got some rubber on the bike now,

the swingarm is an 05/06 ZX6R item while the pivot diameter is the same and the width of the arm is slightly narrower then the gladius, it still requires a shedload of work.... theres spacers made EVERYWHERE LOL.

still retained the gladius linkage, but had to make a 21mm spacer sleave to match the zx6r dogbone spacing,

new dogbones are also made to make the ride height suit debs short-arse needs.

the swingarm has had its shock hole releived somewhat round its back face to allow the for the different shock angle and diameter.

theres 12mm worth of spacers i had to make to make the swingarm bolt into the frame, and i also had to make a new circlip, and dust cover.

the rear wheel is a 07 GSXR 600 item, and it currently rides on zx6r wheel bearings, in order to make that work, i had to make up the bearing spacer sleave, a new left spacer and a new right spacer, i also had to make a new spigot bearing sleave.

still need to fabricate the exhaust system, and the exhaust end can mounting bracket. then i have to either track down an offset front sprocket, or make one to finish it off. after all that i'll paint/detail it all, and deb can have her bike back.

i painted the swingarm in some satin black i had laying round, not overly sure i will keep it as it doesnt look "factory", so im tempted to have it powder coated a richer satin black... what say you folks?

the shock spring got a touch up. its all actually hard mounted in now, i buy the bend sections for the rear exhaust header this weekend, so hopefully by the end of the weekend she'll be a runner,

ive found a mob in the US who do offset sprockets to suit the SV and from i can gather the sfv and the sv share the same front sprocket, so that makes it a little easier if that all works out.

final pics before she is all finished and ready to rock and roll.

That sounds bloody awesome!! top work on the exhaust pipe work too. i've riden a stock Gladius and they handle well from stock, with the swinger and front end swap you've done, yours will handle like it's on rails!! Best gladius i've seen.

The new indicator bracket.
