I lost my rego papers(still have plates and sticker)
Vic roads wants me to prove to them its my bike
Its been over 10 years since its been regoed so they recon they cannot pull the information up on their computers?
I just want to do a skid on their head but I might get in trouble if the bikes not registered, I suspect court records go back further than 10 years.
Am I missing something obvious?

get a scrap bit of paper and scribble a receipt up from the person you originally bought it off

Then get some teabags and make it look 25 years old?

I would think a statutory declaration is what you need.
Surely they have told you what forms of proof are acceptable ?

So, they're saying it's unregistered and have no idea of the previous registered owner? That's easy - you can get ANYONE to make you out a receipt for the bike (preferrably at $20) and just get it re-registered.

I'm with Rocket. A stat dec is all you should need.

Thanks everyone, I will give the stat dec a go. Yes a receipt from the previous owner would be handy but I dont really want to forge one just to be caught out for fraud by some Indian penpusher down the track....I will find out tomorrow.....

Devo sold me a GSX11, kept the NSW rego/plate, had it a month or 2
and went to get Qld plates / rego.
Qld transport wanted to see the "bill of Sale",
Lucky I found it out in the car, next to my note pad and pen.....;)
never even ask to see the bike.

Yep as mentioned before, you can fill out a stat dec. Its a legal document. That is proof enough if you have a legit excuse for not have prior records.
Happened to me at QLD transport. bought a bike off a guy in South Aust, paid the guy, transported it to QLD, then the guy refuses to give me a receipt stating I owe him more money. I simply provided the previous owners name and address and filled out a stat dec that I now owned the bike. Done and reregistered in QLD. stat dec simply stated that I own the bike and paid the [insert previous owners name] $x for it and signed the doc.

I am with stat dec guys, mines going back on the road after 5 years and all I need is a stat dec saying where, when and from who I obtained it.

The Nitrous note pad method is far easier and cheaper than a Stat Dec. But, either way will work. Your choice.

Vic Roads will take old photo's of the bike as proof of ownership, well the local one here does anyway

It's not that hard to walk into a cop shop and fill out a free stat-dec hillsy, I do it a couple of times a month

stat dec done, downloaded the form, off to the oinkers and it was all done in the time it would have taken to boil a pot of tea.......Cheaper than a teabag.
Gsxar, I think I may have a couple of old photos of your bike layin around. Can I have it please?

For anyone in doubt the bloke at vic roads didnt even blink at the stat dec, I doubt he even read it and I am legal, ....aside from the fact that i have had a few celebratory ales and am now legaly stonkered so i cant ride it.

In NSW they hit you with $95.00 extra on the green slip because its been out of rego over 3 months, is it the same in Vic?
