For no apparent reason i just thought id upload my build when i converted my XR250R to motard status during the Bandit build.. Not the biggest capacity chook chaser but i had a ball doing it and was happy with end result.. let me know what you's think...

Forks were removed to take boots off and spacers inserted along with heavy grade oil to make stiffer and stop forks from bottoming out because off oversize rotor..

Seen as though the master shite itself on the XR i replaced it with the one of the R1 along with my shiny new BXP resi, so I prob get a radial master for the R1 or maybe just another stock one and get another Resi from EXBEN.. either way heres what she looks like on the 2 Fitty..

Can't believe it's been 5 years since I tampered with this thing..

I've been thinking about regoing the minitard for a while now, It hasn't been since they increased it from less $$ than CC to about $600 in NSW so it's been going to waste in the corner of the shed the last few years, she still purrs like a kitten and turned 10yo this year with a mighty 8000kms on the clock.

Well anyhoo time for a facelift. I've always been partial to the 1984/85 colour scheme, it was my year of birth (84) and my old man had one new from the same year (84) . I'm not going to powder coat the frame red or paint the motor black, so I'll be doing a budget one to say the least but still some fun either way..

So list of things to do...

*Wash the shit of it from last riding it 3 years ago..
*Red number plates, rear fender and front motard fender.
*Recover Seat Blue.
*Vinyl paint the 'XR' writing on the blue seat.
*Fit some Blue boots.
*Paint yellow number plate panels and front headlight as per 84 style.
*Source some retro Pro-Link stickers for the swingarm.
*Maybe fit a blue tool box behind seat.

So stripped the old girl the other day, took exhaust off to strip off heat proof paint and tidy right up, not sure If I'll go all black or if I'll spray clear..

I purchased some red plastics to just fit and be happy but as it turns out red number panels are either rare as rocking horse shit or just don't match the tank/rear fender combo.. I've already got a CR125 rear fender so matching the reds for the number plates and rear fender are near impossible, so anyway I did buy a new polisport set and they may aswell be orange compared to the tank so I thought feck it the black paint hasn't missed a beat in 5 years so I'll try and match up the tank red with a duplicolor paint..

So I used some high fill plastic primer/filler and then top coated with the red duplicolor lotus red I think It was.. pretty close to the lid of paint/fuel tank but I'll soon see when I fit it all up.. at very least better than the polisport orangey ones..

This doesn't have to be perfect these are my original plastics and did spend the first 5 years of their life in the scrub so they have faired pretty well over time and I'm not a pro painter so short from up close pickyness this will do..

fuel tank would be handy, there is a mob in China that make these Honda CG125 Tanks new with cap, petcock and rubbers etc for around $200 depending on the paint scheme you want. I like this shape..

Like where this is going. When i built my tracker from an XR600...the hardest thing i found was finding a tank that fit over the top frame rail.....
I ended up with a chinese copy of a honda XL tank i think??

So my original plan was to fully reshape the XR for $1000 or less..

All I need now is the fuel tank, seat, seat hoop maybe, steel for sub frame and muffler, on target for now.

I had 2 spare handlebars in the parts bin I'm not sure which ones I'll use yet, I found the horn in my toolbox brand new so score and technically I didn't pay for the indicators they were a Xmas pressie but I'll add to total for reference..

Took the forks off this morning, cleaned up destickered etc.

Also took the 320mm motard rotor off and went back to the little 240.

Moved all the wiring back through the bike, refitted the forks dropped them through 50mm which seems to be plenty at this stage. Fitted headlight brackets, headlight, bars speedo etc also.
