Number plate mounting

does anyone know the queensland laws about the position of a rear number plate.
can they be placed vertical on the side of the swing arm

My mate got busted for having his plate vertical. The law (for cars, anyway) is it has to be right way up, attached to the front and rear of the vehicle so that it can be clearly seen from 45 degrees either side. I'd assume it would be the same for bikes (rear only of course).

I did see a guy wearing one on the back of his jacket once .. he was heatedly arguing with the cops that it was more clearly visible than when on the bike .. LOL .. Dont know how he went with it though 8)
