Thats a brilliant read.

Why did they never release it?

It couldn't be a $$$ thing look at the insurance premiums for them...
Maybe its to still be able to keep the tupperware factories running or am I just too cynical?

I remember that bike.

Hey shadowzone remember yamaha did release a 2WD WR for the enduros and it did really well in the Dakar.
So they were never afraid of putting it into production.
I guess it made more sence to market it a dirt bike scene where the results were massive than in a road bike where people would umm and ahh about it and in all honesty if sold as an option for theR1 would be to tight to fork out for it.

when the wr/yz 450 was released into the public arena it cost a measly $27k or there abouts.....only 15k more than a stocky!! there are a couple in oz and do occassionally pop up on ebay. the main thing that was limiting to it was the weight added to the front, a couple of others have also had a play with 2WD also in the dirt bike world
