Ok the lights are on, the front forks swapped over to R1 USD forks, the Brake calipers are done, and we're almost ready to giddyup again!

A little paint and the wiring harness replacement and she'll be just like a bought one and once again ridden like a stolen one!!!

This guy reckons your lights are a bit high. I tend to agree.
Otherwise, super-duper. [:p]

Some more progress shots - Another one of the front guard because it gives me a fat every time I look at it, the Speedo is mounted and the speedo sensor is done too.

Not much left to be doing and hopefully it will be back under my ass before the end of next month subject to painting turn around times and the like...

I reckon it's too long....gives the bike a rear heavy appearance...might be better once the tank goes on though.

Drag the seat cowl right up to the frame mate and adjust the rear mounting position rather than relying on what's already there. Check where mine sits: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11610

Cheers Gitzy, that's a much better look than mine currently, and the paint will be different too! Pete knows what I'm after, but otherwise it shall remain a secret.

Ok so I had a bit of a play this morning and mocked up 3 different tail scenarios.

Ignore the bits of subframe sticking out it's going to have to be chopped regardless of which way I go with this.

I kind of already know which one I like more and which one I want, but figured feedback never hurts.

Plus it may prove helpful for someone in a similar predicament if they're wondering about tail options.

Oh yeah and the seat was the handywork of our mate Kev from VCM.
(Sorry it's taken so long for a shot on the bike Kev, and more apologies on it not being properly affixed yet!)

So let's go:

K1 600 Rear Ductail:

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/600-2.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/600-3.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/600-4.jpg

SRAD seat unit:

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/srad-2.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/srad-3.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/srad-4.jpg

The seat on the SRAD Set up:

Megatech Vampyrus Rear Ductail seat:

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/vamp-1.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/vamp-2.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/vamp-3.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/vamp-4.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/vamp-5.jpg

http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x437/Supercoach101/vamp-6.jpg

So comment away, they are done as well as I could, but given the no chopping till it's officially decided constraints they aren't as good as they could/should be.

Cheers....

i like the SRAD tail.

Needs a bit of thinning out (chop some off the bottom maybe) but i love the big rear seat cowl look.

In all honesty this was probably the biggest surprise of the bunch.

I wasn't sure how it would turn out and so when I saw it and liked it I surprised myself.

It was more a just because I can thing for me to be contemplating putting it on there and since I had it a comparison was a given although it wasn't the way I was leaning initially. It did give some good food for thought though.

Ultimately though as good as it looks it's a no. Not for me, I have another plan for this little sweetheart of an arse end...

I guess the extra couple of pics gave it away, but that was the way I was leaning.

So the Megatech Vampyrus it is. Now to buy me a grinder and pass the point of no return.

Anyone know anywhere decent in Toowoomba to get some welding done once the Subframe is chopped and ready for re attachment?

Or should I simply let them chop and reattach it themselves once they've measured it for sizing etc? What's the best way to approach this?

Nice choice Stu [8D] Glad to see ya back at it.

LKC73
21-03-2011, 06:48 PM
Shadow, best thing to start with is positsion. Get that right and where you like it, and work from there. Thats what I did with my tail unit. If you can get away with it, leave your stock subframe in while test fitting the tail, and measure from that to the underside of the tail unit. Measure width and the seat length and this should give you a better indication of the custom subframe you need. If you can weld, make up a steel mock up, and see if an alloy shop can replicate it.

Oh and I will add, dont be scared of cutting away bits of the tail, or even adding some fibreglass back into it to get the shape you want around the tank. Once you have it, it will look killer mate.
