Can't find much info.. don't halogen lights need a ballast etc?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HEADLIGHT-EX-STREAM-BILLET-LIGHT-FITS-HARLEY-HEAD_W0QQitemZ310176684737QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Mo torcycle_Parts_Accessories?hash=item4837f89ac1#ht_ 3768wt_1165

I bought a brand new V-Rod headlight from the US but the guy seems to have ripped me off (along with my $300).. even though he had 3000+ positive feedback. Gave me a BS tracking number and won't answer emails.. so now i'm thinking of grabbing this as a cheap temporary light until I can find another V-Rod light locally.

they run on 12V, need ballast/tranny when in houses to knock them down

for that money i would want a h4 bulb in it though...

i'd email the seller and see what bulb it takes, i'd say a h3 (so only one, like a spot light)
failing that ask how many wires are coming out of it, 3 and ur set :D

Cheers, will ask him..

Wish this american fucker would just send me my V-rod light. Really don't wanna resort to putting fairings back on..

here ya go mate - I might turn the mount upside down so the headlight sits lower but this was just a mock fitup I did last night using the fairing frame mounts on the headstock

I'm assuming you paid with paypal?
File a complaint. They do get results.

To answer your question,.. "don't halogen lights need a ballast etc?". The answer is no when refering to car and bike lighting. H4 bulbs are traditionally halogen and fit into a H4 hedlamp. The yanks on the other hand use H5 bulb and lamp, which is not as focused as the H4. Nowdays you can get a wide variety of bulbs to fit H4 ( lightshttp://www.luminicsbulbs.com/h4_bulbs.php ) H3 is another style, used mostly in fog lamps and area single filiment.
What I am getting at is that the H refers/refered to halogen filement and the number after it refers to the design of the lamp/headlight. These days there are a number of different filements other than halogen, such as tungsten etc.

Thats a great looking light watto, can you perhaps post a pic of the bulb, I am curious if its fitted with a bulb common in Aust I may just buy one.

The pic below are the bulbs common in Aust, not H5 is not included as its basically Yanky and not common in Aust (hard to get hold of)

Thanks for the replies guys..

sharky, that's the next step, going to file a complaint end of this week if I don't hear from him. Considering his feedback and reputation, giving him a bit more time in case there's a legit reason.

watto, you're right, heaps bigger than the pics looked on ebay, but i still kinda like it.. it grows on me.

i'll pull it apart and have a look at the globe for ya mate

hmmm the retaining ring that holds the lamp unit inside the shell is locktited in or something as didnt want to budge too much when I opened the shell

I'll have another crack when not being so hamfisted with it - turned the mount around and looks much better sitting lower - will take another pic in the morning

The guy replied.. 3-wires, H3 globe..

Tossing up between this and a 5" round with matte-black casing, set way back against the forks so it's almost between them..

he sen H3 globes only have one wire on them and are used in fog lamps and single spots. 3 wires could mean that its a H4, H5, h7 or H8 but its very unlikely to be H3. If you are buying a light make sure of bulbs can get expensive if you have "uncommon" bulb.

Hi fellas

yep after peeling the wire cover back found the third wire

still havent managed to get the locking ring out of the headlight shell so I can get access to the rear of the bulb thou - seems like the fuckas locktited in there or something

in the meantime turned the mount upside down and def looks betta

my guess it is a H5 bulb in there if it has three wires, yo can get these bulbs but are twice as expensive as a H4

thats a monster of a headlight

can you grind the back half off it and pull it right in?

Watto, looks freakin -awesome- from the front, but you're right, it sticks out a long way. A shorter version of the exact same light would be so fucking porn.

Fimp/Sen

agree fellas looks too long but the reflector globe/mount takes up nearly all the space in the shell coz it narrows so much at the back and the trim surrounding the lens is just past the front of it - it's actually not that much longer than the sachs projector lights I had fitted up originally

other option might be to drill some new holes and actually move the mounting plate further forward on the headlight shell itself so it sits further back against the headstock

Slung down under the bottom triple clamp would be pretty different.. and could set it right back in. Then again, I like weird shit like that.
