Bizalloy is what most aftermarket disc manufacturers use.

Joe, the stuff we use is about 20mm or so thick, BUT, I will ask the Mechanical Supervisor (Gary) about thinner stuff... Gary and I get on rather well!.... I wonder if Qantas will bitch about my "heavy" hand luggage... lol...

More info Joe, we have some 12.7mm stuff here (1/2" in fred flintstone measurement system), what grade do you need, 200 or 500? also, be aware that it work hardens... even with machining.

12.7mm.. fark! thats way to thick for me unfortunatley :( id need to machine down at least 6mm of it in order for them to work as disc's :(

and yep am fully aware of its hardness after work.. had to attempt to drill a hole into a plate once we had already cut it.. didnt happen lol.

thanks for the efforts anyways reg, much appreciated

Yeah, he's damned good at it too

I've only been waiting 4-5 months for a response to my 2nd query about some buzz saws (hint hint Ben)

(must admit that he did a good job on my handle bar extensions and even delivered them to me personally, on the fool's run, and the welder didn't even have to try and keep them straight while welding, they fitted that snugly)

I can get Bis 80, 360 and 500 in offcuts in 6mm if you want to pick up from my place. We have plazma cutters i can use to cut out a disk but the cut isnt as clean as lazer.

G'day,
This is my first post, I work in a iron foundry and years ago made a pair of front discs for a friends 0W01 superbike out of compacted graphite iron to replace his worn out ISR rotors, we have a spectrometer at work and tested some yamaha rd discs and found they were nade out of 420 grade stainless steel, hope this helps.
Cheers

Is that a fixed or floating disc Latherboy?

crazymofo

biz 360.. has a lower heat rating , it changes its chemical composition under heat, at around 350 deg i think. dont really think it'll be that much of an issue on the rear, but the fronts when at the track id be less trusting.

biz80 has 550ish deg rating, prolly a better bet, its what i'm going to use, and is acutually recomended by the aviation board to be used as a replacement steel for brakes on aircraft (thinking about it.. planes have a lot of weight, and speed, trying to pull up,,, high heat)

Crazymofo ... Couldnt you have told me that 3 days ago !!! nah its all good ... ive never done a track day so im not too worried about it for now ... the disc is fixed Chalk once i get around to getting a new swingarm ill go all out with a cool floater disc ..
I got the front disc's from Awesome Disc in ringwood and im pretty sure he said they were 360 ..

mate, i dont think it would matter all that much on the road anyways... disc's never heat up enough, even when punting hard on the road, as the braking force varies a lot.. slight dab here, there, big grab here. another dab there...etc....

however on the track.. constant and repetitive hard late braking, the disc's will have a lot more abuse thrown at em.
