G'devening all,
As the title suggests, ive had a week off work thanks to a sprained ankle. As i was feeling sorry for myself and listening to Rolling Stones' - Paint it Black, i was suddenly hit with an idea:

Paint the 'fighter! (Black) :P

Started with this:

Factory blue, taking notice of the ugly 4->1 collector, scraped clutch cover and unpolished 'zorst pipe.

Righto! panels off! And rubbed back. Went to the Autobarns to get a litre of paint and all necessary bits.

Scuffed and ready to paint. Yes i paint in dri-riders! (went for a ride earlier with girlfriends brother's bikes, and was a bit eager to go!)

First coats done

All coats done and baked in deh makeshift oven

Orange-peel surface with a bit of metallic showing through

All the while this was happening, i was busy with the other bits. The clutch & magneto covers came off, and were engine-enamelled in a vibrant gold. The entire exhaust was also removed, scuffed back, and ceramic-painted satin black, and baked on appropriately. After the 4>1 collector, i gave that a nice bit of polish too.

All the panels were topcoated with clear, and then 2000-grit sanded back and cut n polished. The spot on the tank where i took a pic still needs another go with cut n polish, but its looking pretty tidy so far.

Lotsa deep black with large aluminium, small aluminium & small gold flakes in it.

Dad had popped home from work by this time, and i got him into my biggest problem, two high-tensile sheared off bolts that would not move. more on them as i acheive victory! (or fail miserably)

Workshop foreman.

Anyhow, this is my first major mod whilst an ASF member, learnt a bit, and had some fun. Watch this space as next i'm doing the rims black, and the "rocker cover" the same colour.

Cheers!

Heh, youre dead-right Bandit. Them ESSO boys need something to keep 'em busy, and if its not my bike 'zorst, its his monaro / one tonner / vk wagon / 400amp arc welder etc. Thanks guys for the praise, its a good feeling knowing you've made something special on your own [8D]
