save your money for when you can get a bigger bike like a gixxer 750/1100 or a fireblade or anything someone has done the mod on here with before as it will work out cheaper and easier for you
if you really want to mod an EX400 (WTF is that?) then use it to do all the "standard" mods first like dash, h/light, subframe ect use it to learn on or keep it in one piece for a better re-sale/trade in for later

It could be a simple bolt on, or it could be a major feat of engineering. It's hard to say without basic measurements. Do you have any pics, as I too would like to know WTF a EX400 is when its not being attacked by an angle grinder

an EX400 i believe would be called a GPX400 over here... bigger version of the GPX250...

If you do it, look for the smaller SSSA's like the VFR400, NTV650 or even the NSR150. That way you'll get a narrower chain line / smaller rim which will suit the EX better than the VFR750 SSSA.
I think the EX400 is a smaller bore GPZ/EX500 twin.
