I probably shouldnt start a new project when I havent even finished my bike yet but screw it, I've started and i'm gonna finish both.
Now its not a streetfighter, its not even a bike. Infact I wouldnt conisder it a car anymore...
My daily drive is a 1972 mini clubman. Beautiful car.

I needed a barbeque...

So I've spent my Sunday creating a new BBQ for my new house. Thanks to some blokes down in Camden we were able to pick up a clubman front end for cheap to get the project going.

The goal of this project is to do it as cheap as possible and use as much as possible from the original BBQ and also parts from the original mini.
The project will be quick and it will probably be nasty and I can guarantee a shortcut or two will be taken...

This was what we started with...

She has a bit of rust but she doesnt need to be road worthy so it wasnt to had to cleanup and convert.

Speaking of the BBQ found a 4 Burner in the garage which was an almost perfect fit, a few cuts to the body and the back of the BBQ itself and she slid in like a glove.

Got a bit Grinder happy

Some legs were attached using the existing subframe mounting holes and the legs from the old BBQ.

You can see in the following pic where we have cut out the headlights to allow the grease tray to slide out. The grill will therefore be hinged to allow easy access.

And here is how it looks after day one. It's now functional so all we need to do is make it look pretty. Bog and paint will conquer all!

Has anyone got any thoughts on what else we can add to it ie cool locations for cup holders, tong holders etc?

More to come....

Looking GREAT! Maybe a shelf that folds out from the underside of the bonnet to hold stuff above the bbq if there is enough clearance there ?

put on some nice big flares and put mould a few stubbby holders into it. and utensil holder on the other side.

Needs working head lights that go on when it reaches cooking temp. I love the idea. If you're going to do it, why not go all the way? Stereo system? Horn (takes the place of a dinner bell)? So many possibilities! Genius!

Haha that's awesome.. a fold-down tray from the inside of the bonnet, as mentioned above, would be cool.. some flat pieces of stainless to fill in the gaps around the bbq would give you work-area and holes in it could be for tongs etc..

YEah Cheers, I'm already working on the stainless fillers. Other Ideas I'm tossing around are to have the wheels on a drawer system with an esky behind one and the gas thank behind the other. Just struggling to come up with an idea to fabricate it. Worst case scenario it will be aplatform on castors with a wheel on each end.
Im thinking also about incorporating a draw into the entire front grill so it pulls out also and yea the headlights will be working. We're considering hooking up a speaker system to the house stereo aswell.

Speaker in each headlight would be hilarious.. if you can find the right size.

Bonnet scoop. That would make an excellent hood BBQ.

Ironically it does have a scoop, thats why it has those holes in it... its not in the shot tho...

Can anyone see any issue with spraying in acrylic? Its cheap and I dont want to strip all the existing paint off. mmmm

I'd lean more towards painting with something with a lil heat resistance.....

If you dont fit a fucking slurpee machine to the bonnet and dispense cups from the headlight, the whole project would be wrong

Flat black is the go. Need to make the back end into a couch so you have a matching set. Seen one of these made into an armchair complete with lights and shit. GOOD JOB!!

So quick update, it isnt completely finished yett. Its still awaiting some racing stripes and a couple of gas struts to hold the bonnet up properly.
The headlights work using some 12v converters that you use for downlights. Also hooked up some undercar neons aswell for kicks.

Hope you likey.
