Old old mag test this one which gets dragged out every now and then

consider fuchs synth's base stock is bought from Mobil, same stock as M1
and they offer very different results in this test...

its a industrial bearing test which gives very little credo to a automotive engine... sure its a simple old school high shear friction test but one that doesnt carry much weight when it comes to an oil that is required to do everything that is asked of it in a modern internal combustion engine.

An oil is supposed to clean aswell, right? ie. remove deposits.

..^^detergent oils do ..but yer right auto oil has to cool, lubricate, clean itself and retain its shear strength under a wide range of tempretures and things have changed a lot in the last 20yrs regarding the specs of oils etc..
i only deal with oils specifically for hydraulic systems normally but a lot of heavy machinery uses engine oil in their systems Caterpiller for one because of its wide SAE ,whereas they use to use HVI oils [although some still do ]which are regarded as too narrow for many mining machinery applications .
