Does anyone know what to do with the wiring on my ZXR750 M1. I have fitted a 94 zx9r motor and it runs fine using the 750 CDI, flatslides, and airbox, however I want to run the 900 box so that the rev limiter is in the right place. The 900 box has 2 plugs while the 750 has 3. The engine won't fire with only 2 plugs attached to the 900 box. The 3rd plug on the 750 loom has only one wire, and I am guessing that this should be wired into the 8 pin plug for the 900, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The 3 plug CDI must be a stand alone M model part, I've checked all 3 of my ZXR L models & they all have 2 plug jobs. My 7/9 runs the 750 L3 loom & the '94 900 CDI box, It runs the same with either the 750 or 900 boxes (there doesn't seem to be any differences in the curves by the seat of the pants, but as you pointed out, the 750 has a higher rev limiter)
Oh yeah, welcome to the site by the way, & pics of the M please. [:p]

Thanks for that, I'll post some pics soon. Did you use the 750 carbs and airbox, and did you need to change the jetting much as this is the next step. I only did the engine change on the weekend and took it for a quick spin this afternoon and there is a couple of hickups under hard acceleration. I am assuming that it is not getting enough juice. Also does anyone know a tuner on the central coast who does a proper job, every time I pay someone to do a job I end up having to fix their bloody mistakes myself. I would love to find a local tuner I can trust not to bullshit me and do the job right.

Yep, used the 38s & 750 airbox, tried the 40s but they needed some fine tuning & I didn't have time, IMHO, you don't need 40mm carbs on a 900 unless it's a race/trackday tool that spends most of it's time up the top 1/3 of the tacho, 38s are much more tractable for the street & will still pull WAY past 240 in the topend.
You hafta space the tank up 10mm either end to clear the airbox but it's hardly noticeable. I ended up using a mix of bits in the carbs, 2 1/2 turns out, 35 pilots, 900 (blue) diaphragms & slides, Dynojet stage 2 900 needles (don't rember the clip) & I think it was 185 MJs, I set the carbs up the day before our last April Fools Run & got real lucky, it ran PERFECTLY for the whole 4500 odd Ks & pulled like a train all through the rev range. The bike's in bits now, when I get it back together, I'll set 'em up proply on the dyno but I don't expect 'em to be far off.
The 900 motor in the ZXR frame is a SWEET unit huh? [^]

Grievo69, The M uses a Throttle switch that connects to earth when the throttle is turned ( green wire). As the 9 doesn't use this you leave it disconected. Your bike won't run because the wires going into the other 2 plugs have to be switched around into the correct positions, they different on the M & 9.
Iv'e got both wiring diagrams but I don't have the positions of the wires going into the cdi on the 9 (or L3), maybe turbokat can tell us what they are??:)

A mate had a zxr and it had the best front end. It was so stable and planted, it felt like it would never let go. Pretty painful riding possie though. The 900 would make it a weapon.

And welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the info guys. Any chance of getting a list of where your wires sit in the plugs turbocat? I always wanted a zxr750r, I had not planned on the 900 motor for a while to come, however the 750 threw a rod last week and forced my hand. I am hoping that the CR box will fit the 900. Also planning on some race fairings and an ohlins if anyone knows where I can find them.

i heard of a guy at work who is selling a complete set of road fairings for 2 or 3 hundred if your interested i can track him down for a accurate price year etc. has anyone put a zx9r motor in a later zx7r 96' onwards?

No but thanks, my road fairings are mint, but I plan on doing trackdays and a bit of club racing so I really need some fibreglass. Add an akropovic system to the wish list if anyone knows of one. The later model 750 and 900 move further apart in design and the conversion is a bit harder. There is a mob who do a conversion kit, check out Andys ZXR750R site on google, there are some good links to technical articles and fast ZXRs from europe.

Watevr, one of my customers has one with this conversion kit http://www.brgracing.com/zx7-9.html. Looks neat & comes with everything you need. The bike rides nice just like a ZX7 with more cubes.........Funny that.:D

He could even use the Akro headers off his 7 cause they are movable at the collector.
