I've owned this 97 srad 600 since 98 and it's been thrashed in the hills, toured to the island a couple of times, commuted to work when I had no running car, dumped me on my head once, drag raced (best of 11.9 with ME on it) but for the last couple of years has sat in my lounge under a sheet.

I didn't have the heart to sell it so it's time for zee German fighter!

This is my new subframe and a seat unit I got from Germany ages ago.

EFE 1230

The zed project has slowed, trying to find a few bits and pieces like a good tank but it's more of a long term project, this thing is a quickie!

fuck you're up early! ya shit the bed!

hey mike how'z that going to handle rego and shit ta get it back on the road, got a full pic of it...would'nt mind seen the hole effect with the new tail mate

EFE 1230

No inspection for rego and apart from the yoshi I'll have all the "legal" requirements covered, indicators mounted the correct distance apart, tail/h lights with adr marks, 2 mirrors and a rear tyre gaurd past the axle (like a TLS suzi) as well as the all important red rear mounted reflector.

this is the only other photo as it's sort of wedged in my lounge room.

what do you mean "like a TLS"
a big hugger? or a full on mud-gaurd fugly thingy?

EFE 1230
03-09-2009, 10:21 PM
"mud-gaurd fugly thingy" errrrr yeh but like the Euro's do for TUV regs, hopefully in stainless and a little more "artistic" than the factory TLS.

SA regs require a rear mudgaurd goes past the rear axle, so if you fit a fender eliminator or cut the factory gaurd down you cop a defect sticker.

thats alright, i should move!
i thought the rule was it had to be a 45degree line back from the axle that was covered

all i know is that standard = fugly [XX(]

Made a seat mount plate today, 3mm thick plate so it's nice and strong and plenty of meat to weld/drill to mount bits/brackets.

Might put a thick piece of rubber between the base and seat unit to soak up any vibrations and also leave the gap between the tank/seat for a bit of visual "mechanical detail".

Have to get some thinner gauge sheet for the upholstery base and see if a few of the 'leccy bits will fit in the tail piece and make an undertail out of some alloy sheet I have.

EFE, looking good mate. Why not make a fibreglass base for the upholstery? That way it can be tucked under the base, stapled and clued. It will also give you some chance to put some mounting tabs, or bolts in the seatbase so you can mount the seat through the plate of the subframe.
Just an idea mate.

Got the tailpiece all fibreglassed up, had to remove the battery box from the rear of it as there was no way of closing it up and still being able to remove seat unit to get to it.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff296/EFE1230/mypictures008-1.jpg

it's been molded to the subframe but I can cut the bottom out and make it 2 piece if needed but I want to keep it all as one.

and this is the taillight I got for it just gotta work out where/how to mount it and fit up a LED globe to make it nice and bright, sorry no ADR markings so guess I'll just have to run the gauntlet with the coppers lol.

not 100% on the paint yet but some sort of WW2 industrial shade of grey or other military style colours no bling semi gloss.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff296/EFE1230/mypictures010-1-1.jpg

the yoshi needs to be tilted up to the same angle of the seat unit but I'm in 2 minds about chopping it down as it's quite loud as it is.

Thinking of using these "Chopaweeza" (sp?) bars and a different mask.

not 100% sold on the bars due to the need for new throttle/clutch cables (maybe GSR one's??) and new brakes hoses.

yep bars look gay up to high ....can you chop them down to normal riser height efe

Gix11
31-01-2012, 06:19 PM
What they are all saying mate. If those riser tube were a quarter of the size I reckon that would look great - really different.

I guess the problem then would be tank clearance though hey?

Hillsy
01-02-2012, 03:57 PM
Cut the risers in half and angle the bars up to clear the tank. That would look pretty wild.
