View Full Version : Bandit engine into Slabbie?

The original plan for the slabbie build was to pick up a cheap Slingshot write-off to raid mostly for the 1127 engine, carbs etc but also for various other bits and some running gear.

Over the last few months I've only seen one Slingy, which I missed, at a halfway decent price. What I have seen is a lot of oil cooled bandits so I'm thinking of a change in plans.

I know the bandit motor will drop straight in (it actualy sounds easy if you type it fast). I want to keep the rev-happy nature of the GSXR so the question is, can I fit my slabbie cams and ignition to the bandit engine to get a big bore GSXR relatively easily? What's the catch, I'm sure there must be one?

I know there are one to two banditised GSXRs here but I can't recall who's they are

thanks in advance, dan

It seems like a common swap to put the GSXR cams into the bandit, I'm just not sure if I should do the ignition as well to get the revs

Talk to Supercharger Mark mate: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7185 Can't remember if he did the ignition as well? He did convert the clutch though as the Bandit unit let go too easily.

I put a 12 motor into a 88 slabby frame a couple of months ago for Davio the motor is a straight fit front end off later GSXR's are a straight fit too .
Good luck
P.S. use the slabby mounting plates and spacers.
p.p.s Gsxr cams go int bandit 12 motors doing this takes away from the torque and gives to the top end.

lol @ davio
I put a bandit motor into my 91 gsxr and used the original cams and ignition off the bandit .
after having it tuned by balls , it was literally a ball tearer , u didnt have to rev it hard to get awesome performance

Hi Pesh, what did the tuning consist of?

My dad is still racing a bandit that's just had a full system, pods and a lot of dyno time and it's bloody good. Doesn't rev much compared to the GSXR but is good for 130 something hp and has a monster mid range
