I bought a new bike last week as a work bike. I do a lot of running about in the city, and on the 711, I "may" have been doing too many wheelies from traffic lights.
A couple of weeks ago when the 711 mysteriously stopped (as happens to streetfighters on occasion), my fiancee said I needed to buy another bike that was reliable. Since I had to...
It's a 97 gsxr600, with a yoshi can, oggy knobs, 35,000k's, and 6 months rego and cost me $4350. It's supposed to stay standard, with the exception of the bars. Not sure if I'll be able to stop at bars, though.
It's got no real damage, apart from stone chips and some small scratches from what looks like a slow speed fall (L side mirror and crash knob, and a bit on the fairing and engine cover). The carbs need to be sorted out ( a couple of big flat spots), but that's about it. Any one done any engine/airbox mods to one?
All in all pretty clean.

Do you live/work somewhere down near Mascot? I think I've spotted your 7/11 on Botany Rd a couple of times.

Yeah, I live on Botany Rd, and my office is nearby, too. What do you ride (so I can keep an eye out)?

I knew I'd get some kinda response from you when I wrote that. It'll mean that it's been washed twice this year, you know.

Does this mean you will be taking the atrocious luggage rack of the fighter?

Ah, thought so. I live down just off Botany rd, just near Botany shops. I'm on a K5 1000 fighter, with twin lights and an enormous Micron can.

Hooligan, very tidy pick up mate. But didnt the first of the SRAD GSXR's in this shape come in EFI form? My brother had one of these in the same colour and size (600cc) and it was injected. The throttle bodys maybe out of sink if theres a flat spot.

Take it to Harley! I think the idle screws are a bit dodgy on these. Not sure about airbox mods, just whack in a better filter. I don't think the ram air is as problematic as on the zx9s that people have issues with. Just have the fairings off before you get it tuned otherwise you will need it done twice. Actually mine was very temperamental if the airbox was not completely sealed. Make sure it is seated on the carbs properly and the little lid has all its screws otherwise it has a hissy fit. Wish i still had mine!

LKC, the first 600's were carbs, I think they went efi in 98 or 99, but the 750's went efi in about 97.
And Pt, the fairings are probably staying on this one - for a while, anyway. This is actually the second one I've had. I had one back in 99, before I'd finished the 711. The same, except it had ghey yellow wheels.
It had a yoshi on it too, and was a lot smoother, no where near the amount of hesitation/stuttering through the rev range.

Hey I got one of those!

same colours too!

I got a full carbonfibre fairing as well.

If you put a filter in it DO NOT use a BMC they are shit and will give a big flat spot around 9500rpm use a K&N no flat spot with stock pipe or yoshi 4-2-1 no rejetting.

and you can actually lean them further than that without getting ya knee down, I've skimmed the bottom of the fairing just in sweepers and if you touch the pegs down on the road you're in an accident lol.

also if you like to rev it use synthetic Castrol R4 superbike oil, every other oil I tried would end up in the airbox, did a leak down/comp test while still under warranty and found no probs just started running the R4 and it went away.

if you want to it to turn a bit quicker you can fit a 20mm shim on top of the rear shock between the frame mount, makes a world of difference but still won't wobble or get twitchy.

My knee's not down in the pic, it's close, but no cigar. Only ever gotten knee down twice on public<s>roads</s> race tracks. Besides, i'd rather have some extra cornering clearance up my sleeve on the road, just in case...
Probably won't need to quicken the steering, clip ons are bad enough without pointing the nose down any further. Besides, this is my work hack,I'm not supposed to mod this one.
