Great little bikes. Love them.

Never owned one but ridden dozen's,
I often get them as loan bikes.

My ex had a Mk1 (round shape/carb's) in the UK and
a Mk2 (sharp shape/injected) here in AU.
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/7690/sfsv2.jpg

Sasha has a Mk1 sat here now.
100,000+k's and takes off to Casino, 1770 and 600+k day rides.

# keep an eye on the front camchain tensioner,

# the oil pick-up doesnt suit long mono's,

# brakes and suspension are basic but fixable,

# CBR6 rear wheel will go in with minor mod's,

# guy in the UK put a 1000 motor in.
said it was a nightmare and not worth the hassle.

One of the few little bikes im happy to play on,
bit of a step down from your gixxer though ?

checkout Svrider.com

they got heaps of nice ones there, especially the ones on BOTM
http://forum.svrider.com/gallery/data/500/SVoTM-Nudist.jpg

I think that SV has been lightened over 30 pounds or something. Gen2 engine in a GEn1 frame, plus ZX6R front and rear end.

here's a gen2

wow, those last two look SWEET!

great little bike, just dont buy an ex-demo one
i think that was where i made my biggest mistake [XX(]

oh, and jim i sold mine a few years back
dont mistake a TL for an SV
completely different beasts!

if you get one, do what joe did
new forks and new rear shock should be first on your to-do list

ps- thats the first (and last) time im done that on a bike tyre, mine is the black one tony is referring to above. what REALLY suprised me was the way the tyre felt once we got onto wooton raceway/road on the way home, you could feel it all flexing around like it was a flat tyre when it was leant over
NOT FUN [V]

I posted in a previous thread about a SV

I don't exactly have a fighter, but I was chasing the cafe racer look with my SV. Body positioning is lower and more aggressive than my mates 08 R1.
I have a 04/05 GSXR600/750 front end and a 06-07 ZX10R rear shock. Make's a hell of a difference to the bikes handling. Haven't had any major headshake problems (don't have a steering damper), even blasting bumpy primitive QR.

I say do it saq78 :P, fighter the shit out of it and go for an undertail exhaust. Looks the shit me reckons

In an email he sent me "the council left gravel strewn across a bend with no warning signs at all" said he had a nasty fall...
Big thanks goes out to the council for killing a nice bike...

My father in law has one of these (round frame model) and it's a great toy. If the forks were sorted and the pickup off a closed throttle were smoother it would be a perfect mid-weight ride.

To that end I happen to have the forks and clamps off a GSXR600 SRAD (RWU) spare and they would be a nice upgrade to the shitty forks on the SV. Does anyone know if the SV wheel will fit on a GSXR600? I don't have the SV handy to measure the axle diameter but I know the GSXR forks have a pretty big axle and my spare Slingshot wheel won't fit without a bearing change

cheers
dan

I got it to put on the slabbie but at this rate it might be easier to just get a SRAD/TL?Busa wheel that will drop in so the slingy wheel might become spare. I'll let you know

Ed found this site - http://www.gregoryli.com/search/label/DIY which is pretty good for the later GSXR stuff.

I'm building up a sharpy one with K8 GSXR-600 forks and wheels, not sure if you can call it a 'fighter as such as the definition is grey at best! Some nice examples up above giving me some inspiration...

lol, to the comments reguarding me.

good news is ive sold the sv as a complete bike, i think the fella is intending on just getting it all fixed up to how i had it.
it wasnt to badly banged up, just scratches everywhere and a cracked tail plastic mainly.... but id had a gutfull of the bike, so it was time to move it on....

the wife and i have a new project now.... b-king

yeah i have a shitty SV rear shock as well... i would take it from someone if they paid me though... they are horrible.

on the general SV650 topic though... I gots one!

Its a great bike. stacks of torque for a 650 and great fun to mod. There is so much info around that it is all very easy.

I have done the GSXR front end swap and zx10r rear shock and it makes a world of difference. I have also done a few other little bits and pieces. feel free to ask for any advice.

Also check out svrider.com and svdownunder.com for a lot of knowledge, i'm on both of those forums as XA-Mont.

and here is my bike :D (no good pics since the front end)
