This is one for the more technical people out there.

Has anyone had any experience with fork extensions, either making them, fitting them or owning a bike with them?

I know the gold community kat had them on the RGV front end and I was thinking of making similar for the GS. After three years, about 8 manifolds, various different spacers and inserts I still cannot get the front wheel far enough away from the turbo. The USD RGV front end is about 50mm shorter than the standard GS item, so longer legs should reset the bike geometry back to factory.

I am thinking of somekind of alloy insert to screw into the top of the fork legs. Any suggestions?

you could always make your top clamp step down a bit

I was think'n, when I win the raffle and Ben has to make a set for me, we can do that, but in the mean time I want to explore this option.

The v-twin TZR250 had a stepped down top clamp and I'd guess the fork diameter is about the same as the RGV units. I've got one on my SRX600 which I'll measure up if you like.

I've been talking to Harley at RB Racng about lengthening some GSXR600 forks to go on my slabbie and he reckons he can do it by altering the internals without requiring an extension on the legs. Having said that I think it can only extend it it by 20mm or so, not the 50mm you're looking for.

I think Exben has made fork extensions (as well as stepped clamps). Give him a hoy.

Might give him a ring tomorrow, see if he's found Large's baseball yet.

Yea, Ben has done this many times. He's the man for this one.

Just spoke to Ben. He was very informative. Just gotta draw something up now.

Hey Ice, how'd the fork extensions go? Did it fix the problem or did you end up getting a top triple made?

I made extentions, they worked a treat. I'll stick some picks up later if ya want.

that would be great. thanks.
how did you make them? do they go over the top or screw in? can you still use the adjustments on fork tops? never actually seen them up close to understand how they work.

Here's a rough idea of how they work.

that's a job for the mumma of Loctites; Super-bearing mount

Also would it need some sort of drainage for water that falls into the well so it doesn't just pool on the adjusters?

I would just cap them if it was me. would make the top of the forks look really tidy and stop the water problem. Just pop the caps out for adjustment.

Maybe some caps that you can pop out with the screwdriver your about to use to do the adjustment, will sort out that problem??
