Anyone want to recommend a set of slightly newer / more modern carb's to
put on the old 1980 GSX1100ET ?

Mine are past their best, had it on the Dyno recently and it was running rich,
but im not keen on trying to play anymore with the stock carbie's.

I was thinking GSXR750 or similar ? but not sure on spacing ?
Dont mind changing inlet rubbers or cables either if I realy need to.

Im keeping the airbox at the momment, but dont mind using another bikes
airbox-to-carb trumpets and modding them to suit.

Not really got the big $$$ for flash new flat slides or similar, and the final goal
of an old style Mr Turbo kit is a way off yet.

Idealy it would be something I can find common at a wrecklers / breakers.
GSXR/Bandit/Teapot/ something thats a bit newer and less "used" but
wont be a nightmare to fit.

Thanks.

There's that sex machine again [:p]
I'm 99% sure I read on Oldskoolsuzuki that the 36mm GSXR 750 Slingshit carbs are a bolt up fit.
Maybe jump on there & have a Captain Cook to be sure.

Cheer's TK, i'll look into the 36mm idea,
Im working my way through the old OSS topic's now.

I just asked on there but the only reply's yet are
36mm EFE ( not common, low miles or new"ish")
and
38mm Gixer Flatslide CV's (cant image being an easy fit)

Needs to be done, but not rush.

Thanks,
Tony.J.

If the 38mm Gix flat CVs fit, the 36s will be easier, the 38mm jobs have a bigger diameter inlet spigot.

Mikuni BST 36 SS Slingshot/Bandit carbs go straight on (with pods, natch). I had'em on my Katana. Have to use 1100 emulsion tubes and needles if you get the carbs off a 750. I've got the part numbers written down some where if you want them.

Flatslides off an early GSX-R work well.

I ran them with K&N pods.

I also ran 36 mm early GSXR carbs with pods, worked well, and fitted straight up.
Throttle cables even fitted straight on.
Another mod for 750 36's was to slightly drill out hole in slides to quicken slide vacuum response and I think get rid of flat spots. Of course you will hafta clean up ports and cam it up, too!
Or go injection ready for the turbo. Carbies apparently can take some settin up with turbo's.

That's a fair way off unless I drop on a bargin.

Been looking at draw through, blow through and injected systems
on everyone else's Turbo's for years, and always swore that i'd
only do it on a modern injected bike, but I want to keep this bike
very much "old skool", no modern stuff, and think a nasty on/off
single carb draw Mr Turbo style kit would suit it.
Its not a daily ride or milage bike.

For now, im hoping a set of 36's might be a cheap fix.

Chopaweeze just had a set of 36 750J carbs on ebay, ended now about $220 i think they went for. If you find a set drill the slide vac holes out to 4.5mm makes a big difference to throttle response. I have a set going on my ET shortly.

Cheer's folks. some good idea's and info.

36's sound the go.

I'll start looking and see what I can find.
Would like something fairly recent or at least
a set that haven't been "entered into" too many times.

Will post up how / if / what i find.

Thanks.
