Got around to ripping off the old rads and mocking up the position of the new one
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/601980293122667.JPG
you can see here what it does for the width of the bike!
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/60198029379678.JPG
it will need to sit a bit lower than that so it slide back into the front cylinder more but thats about the spot :D

aww, was looking forward to seeing the mighty van again at AFR rod :(
i kept loosing that fukkin envelope, then i found it again the other week and rode straight down to the post office!!!!
yeah, thanks for the honesty guys
im thinking the same thing and im sure i can fob it off to someone on the TL site
plus it blocks the view of my sexy oil filter a bit LOL
in my lil sketchings above i was ignoring the bellypans lines anyways so i guess i dont like it either ;)
btw, have to recommend RaceRads for custom stuff
once he got to the job he was FAST and the whole thing only cos me $499 delivered inc fancy cap
lets hope it has the capacity :D

The belly pan looks good mate, I think it follows and complements the nice curves of the tank, but I would get rid of them fucking horrible red and yellow lines

yeah, i actually bought a carcass one
but it was really big and bulky so i sold it to hooligan
i originally got this one so i could put my relocated key barrel and on/off rocker in it
(mine is down on the lower right of the bike at the moment)
but after not being able to turn the bike off after getting my throttle stuck open at the NFR
i now realise that i need to be able to reach the switches while using the clutch so no real NEED for the bellypan
anyone do trackdays? the other thing i heard was that they prefer nakedbikes to have a pan to catch fluids
or is it a myth?
i guess i will wait and see what it all looks like once i change the tank shape etc
oooh, i also have a concept sketch to share with y'all later tonight ;)

does anyone know if you can do a "lost foam" sort of fibreglass method using clay or playdough or something like that?
CBRRRT
15-01-2009, 09:13 AM
Not sure what you mean matey but have a look at Large's thread if you want to know about Fiberglassing. He's ya man.
fimpBIKES
15-01-2009, 11:51 AM
well, need to get shapes for new tank etc
figure its easiest to do in clay rather than foam
then use "lost foam" method but with clay? scrape it out perhaps?
anyways, here is the concept :D

How cool would that look, and seriously one off. There has got to be a way of doing it mate. Could you make a top section and a base for the tank seperatly, then join the two with resin. that way you could use Larges blue foam method, because I think you would need loads of clay mate, and that might work out so expencive it could be cheaper to have it fabed by someone geared up to that type of thing.

various things happening on the tiller at the moment
while i was cleaning up i found the custom nut i had done up to suit the franks triples VS the scotts damper
so i chucked it on
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/62606102171122.jpg
too much working lately hasnt left enough time to look at getting the concept happening for AFR
so focussing on tidying things up, and if things go well i might even have it running!!! LOL

Those forks are a touch longer... how are you going to get around that fimpy?
Big Daddy
18-03-2009, 01:02 PM
Appears the internal stroke is about the same length, just means they may stick out on the upper-tripples a bit higher - well, alot higher....

looking good conrad

18-03-2009, 03:03 PM
im hoping that the extra length will help out my radiator clearance issues a bit more too
they are about 15mm longer from the axle to top i think
which doesnt sound like much but gives me a lot more room to play with than what i have now!
if you look at how i have redone my bar-clamps it means i can still run them up through the triples without running into the bars (although the steering feels a bit funny cos you are in front of the axle)
thanks for the comments, need to design up a new axle tonight....

Hey Conrad,
I really enjoy this thread. It's like the Never Ending Story.
btw- I looked for your nuts but can't see what you're talking about.
Once you wind in a bit (or a lot) of preload those forks wont be much longer.
Don't leave it all till midnight on the last day

19-03-2009, 08:35 AM
oh, not much to see there
its pretty much a top-nut with a shoulder that the radial grubscrews from the mount for the SCOTTS to grab into
anyhoo, had a WIN!!!! last night
the axle from the gixxer fits the forks from the ninja :D:D:D:D
that means i think that i will only need two little spacers (one each side of the wheel) to make up for the wider tripleclamps
i already have two cos corrozia (SP?) wheels are meant for GSXR so when you buy em for a TLR they send out the spacers
i think the ones i have now are about 4mm thick each side and the ones i will need will be about 2
need to look at the measurements tonight
the only other thing holding me back is whether i will need to space out the brake rotors to suit the radial calipers
but fukkit, i could be cool like a chopper and just not run any front brakes [XX(]

lookin' good, and untested after a complete front wiring harness redo including installing the GripAce & MLock it FIRED UP and ran at AFR on friday
for about 5minutes...
anyways, i got it home
pulled things down and get the multimeter onto it
and the reg/rec unit was getting HOTT and clamping down on the battery sucking it down to 8V after a few seconds of decent revs
it now has a new reg/rec unit on it
with the standard tail again (had to get rego)
problem with the GripAce is that it doesnt seem to be reliably working as a starter button
all the other features are fine though
so what i am going to do is unwrap the front harness again and wire in a seperate starter button to sit on the panel i have on the right with the on/off switch
this will let me unplug the Gripace control unit and grip for a trackday in about 5mins and replace em with a rubber grip
simple :D
but yeah, keen to get the starter button on and enjoy the rego for a bit as-is
then it'll be time for the next step [8D]

hey, peeps
literally dug the tlr out the other day
in the last month or two i have bought albi's old frame ($300 with rearsets)
im transferring parts off the old girl to the new chassis in the hopes of making a track-fighter
scored boxers bitubo for $500, never ridden on the tlr with the stock rotary damper and was keen not to on the tls frame either
here she is with my own patented "security vines" TM
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/fimpbikes/2012-02-25_TLRStealingParts.jpg
its just a bare engine sitting out the back at the moment, lorenz
plans are to switch to tls frame, running the tls swingarm for the moment
doing up a new loom for the track (old loom was hacked that many times, leading to problems on nfr etc)
putting a tzr tail i have here on it after the people at eastern creek ridedays telling me they didnt want to see the destroyer tail at their track ever again
this tail will have a fuel-tank cowl fibreglassed to the front of it, covering a smaller fuel cell (10L max)
new fibreglass airbox to pods up along the top of the tank as per my proposal a few years back
clip ons for the track and a moto-x numberboard out front to keep things tidy
have checked and the old wheels etc will fit the new chassis so i can still run the good ones
just have to see if the triples transfer straight over, might need to have a new set of bearings to fix any differences (length of the headstock seems the same)
anyways, things are happening
trackday on 17th may
i tell you wat fimp i was going to take a pic of her with ur security vines and post them !!! but you beat me to it!!!
