Oi All, have been poosed this question and want to see if anyone else can help me trim the options down . An 89' GSXR750 revs cleanly all the way up to redline in neutral but on the road it coughs/splutters/looses power at 7,500rpm. I've got a few ideas but thought I'd throw it to the masses for wider input. As it's a similar bike to the one I'm pulling apart it's got me curious.

Hey Chop,
Is the bike an Aus production model or a grey import?
The imports were rev limited at 7500 when in gear but revved cleanly in neutral.
Can be cured by fitting Aus spec cdi unit.

I've had a sticky beek at the bike . It's got a 89' Aus Compliance plate on it. The blokes had the Carbs rebuilt with new parts & emulsion tubes , replacement coils, new lines/filters and all that. I was leaning toward the Auto Advance unit as I've had similar issues with these myself. The bike is being dropped off next week for me to have a go at so I'll have a better look then. For the rev Limited models what is the correct model number(as written on the unit) for an Aus Spec CDI ?

Or signal generator at the end of the crank?

And the winner was......... The CDI unit. I swapped the one out of my 88' GSXR750 and it ran like a dream. Organised a replacement off ebay for him so he's happy.
