worst thing i know of is cracking the head from the sparkplug out, but usually you only find out its cracked if apart for other reasons, not a big deal in most cases

Keep on the adjustment of the valves and timing chain. Definate achilles heel with XRs.

yep, good work horse,Best 1st mod would be dich the twin carb. Put a good zorst on, not a mod but new cam chain and she'll be a great trail lounge or iner city mirror eater

Yep cylinder head cracking, more common on the 250 but does happen (getting to hot) and cracked side stand mounts from the nuffties starting them on the stand.

Bottom frame rails rust out around the footpeg mount area & if it's never had a bashplate the rails will be pretty beaten up from casing out on rocks, etc.
On a high mileage example, the cam followers will probly be pretty well worn, once the hardfacing wears through, they're like butter.
As with all big singles, clean oil is your friend.
The OEM front discs are soft as fuck as well, look for a concave braking surface for a sign that you need a newy.

Get on the "thumper talk" web site theres heaps of info on all bikes on there and if it aint there it's the place to ask.

It's dirt bikes and nothing else, theres sections for free mods and hot up tips and all the guys on there seem to know there shit.

When i had my 450 i got heaps of info off there and never got a bum steer off any body.
