Norton is back in England ! and new bikes will be on the road soon !

I was down near Oxford last week and picked up a local news rag to read about MCT who are building the new Norton engine prototypes.
Prototype engines are being built right now and they are aiming to produce 500 bikes a year initially.

The Norton name has returned to england from the US and Nortons new plant is up by Donnington !

Official website:
http://www.nortonmotorcycles.com/

MCT news:
http://www.nortonmotorcycles.com/news/view.php?id=54

Oxford Mail news article:
http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/business/news/4361917.MCT_powers_rebirth_of_motorcycle_icon/

Found all this out by pure chance ! :) Cool !

Norton have been "coming back" every year since they shut
if you belive More Crap than News

Isn't the guy who bought Spondon when Sweary Bob retired something
to do with it ? or is that just the Rotory Racers ?

Not quite sure how they get the 100 years of history.
If you buy a name on a bit of paper the history is no
different to Jai-Ling. Still, it seem's to work, folk buy
new Mini's and Beetles etc because they think they have "history"

I liked the original 4-cylinder Meriden Triumph
and the Norton racer Sheen won his last race on.

Back on topic.
Good collection of Norton Rotory's there too....

How do you get an air-cooled push rod engine past the
latest Noise law's ?

I dont see many air cooled Jap bikes and even Harley
are looking as if V-Rods will be their future.

HOS

Have no idea how they will overcome the noise issue ???

Seems bizarre to connect modern fuel injection under current emmissions laws with a pushrod engine ?

The boss of MCT in the local newpsaper I read had said along the lines of the engines they had inherited from the US were a little under developed :D

MCT also currently make F1 car engines, so they must be good !! ;)

I'd rather they stayed British.
Triumph seem more interested in building their bikes in Thailand
and looking to expand their factorys there.

Yeah, "put together" there...;)

Production in Chonburi, Thailand seem's to be twin's at the momment,
they produce tanks / frames / paint and coat / assemble some of the
bikes for the US and Asian market, although they produce lots of stuff thats sent back to the UK.

This is quite normal. My Harley had cables from Japan, electrics
from Checkoslovakia, front fork by Showa (Honda) the list went on.
So are most of the Harley's ridden by Seppo red-neck's.

I've owned a Kwak built in the US and ridden a Yam from Brazil and
a Honda from the US, probabley even more I didnt realise.

^^ Yep, It's global economics. Gotta compete with those that are already farming out component making and over-seas component companies will already be pitching to the new Norton for work.

Happens with cars too. Just about anything on wheels these days. It's not a bad thing to me. As long as the design and specs are done in the heartland then they can say it's British.

And just to throw another spanner in the works - what if the designer was a German or Italian working in the UK? ;)

Surt that Mecca for bikes was levelled to the ground by a big fire only about 6 years ago. 5 halls of the best and most rare/unique bikes imaginable. It was the most terrible, terrible tragedy!
I went up there 2 days after it was burned down and stood with the caretaker right in the middle of the pile of ashes and burned hulks of bikes.... tears down my face mate :(
People were arriving from all around the world to lay wreaths in the ashes.
You wouldnt believe it mate [V]

i knew of the tragedy the same day itd befallen, from media, still keep mags with pictures of burnt rarities... [V] they said, most of the collection's lost irrevocably, but two ys later there came pics and news, almost all the bikes were restored:) the question is how authentically[?][?][?]
and yes, there r a dosen bikes id kill for[8D], like the indian four, or the nimbus, fn1, on and on, defntly britten, honda nsr500 and rcv211, :D:D:D (the fever is back in the village), the nemesis itself, to cut it short.[^]

Well its my home town Birmingham where the museum is, so I`ll be passing soon, I`m due a visit ;)

A few years ago I asked one of the staff how much the collection is worth, at that time they had reckoned it up as £61,000,000 worth of bikes and that was a while back.

If you want to learn all about bikes and the total engineering ingenuity that is the place to go !

Britian was the worlds biggest producer of bikes in the 40s/50s and 60s, bar none. Heritage mate [8D]

By the way... the museum owner was there during the fire and he kept running back in to the fire to drag another and another bike out... the fire crew had to hold him back in the end.

But yes a lot have been rebuilt :)

The museum is easy reach from Birmingham International airport if anyone really has the chance to fly over and see the bikes ?

I have some hard copies of past photos and I`ll scan them and post them later ;)

The Laverda Jota, Another good Pommie bike. (well sort of !)

The Jota was originaly a product of Rodger Slater of Slater Brothers,
The UK Laverda Importer.

He used the imported 1000cc 3C Triple and added high comp pistons,
different cam's, free flowing exhausts etc to produce his much
better version in the UK. Even in 1976 its was clocked at 140mph /
225kph as an off the shelf production bike.
He then renamed the UK built bikes JOTA after the musical term for
a fast type of Spanish dance.

I was always amazed at the amount of folk turning up in the UK
and crying "Sanctuary". They travel from Eastern block / North Africa
etc through most of Europe but they can't find "Sanctuary" ANYWHERE
along the way ?
The dirty F#ckin' frog's even built their "refugee camp" next to the
Channel tunnel so the wandering masses were a hop skip and a jump
from Good Old 'Blighty
A large percentage of refuges (Political or Economic) rarely seem
to meet the standards of their new home. They just drag it down to
the standards they left behind.

They eastern countries mistakenly thought the EU would be good for them, but its a beaurocratic nightmare of laws and legislation without any cohesion.
The EU is a two party system, Germany and France anyone else can go to hell.[:o)]

As a Pommie who moved to a better place.........

They just drag it down to
the standards they left behind.

as far as i know, they refugees overwhelmed all the west europe, germany, france, benilux, scandinavia, even the bloody italy, spain and porto'... they all should be places in refugee camps on a temporary basis and be sent back home when their local fuckups r over, take eastern timor, they of got the independence, but somehow dont hurry up home, preferrin' livin' in oz [:0], the same with croatians, or how they name themselves the bloody yugoslavians, send them fuckin back as well as negroes, asians, caucasian and the other shit fuckers, as u did about 100ys ago to 1,000,000. chinks worked in silver mines [^][^][^] ozland for aussies!!! (and im more aussie by heart than any new pommy chum! :D:D:D)
