depends what your intentions are... they're a great little learner bike, but as far as fightering it, there'd be a shitload of work involved if you wanted to mess with the tail... they have the fuel tank in the tail section, and the dummy tank acts as a glove box... great idea... not so hot if you wanna change the tail section...

hope this helps... :)

You can put 23 cans in the dummy tank:D

They're also really great for freaking out drive-through girls out. They're really nimble machines but they're gutless and you can't be afraid to rev the shit out of them, go one down on front sprocket. with that gearing though they're only good for about 140 with a tail wind so they're good if you want to keep your licence. I like them but they need more power.

They run 2 twin barrel CV carbs for the 4 cyls. They have 2 slides per carb but only one diaphram. The slides are held up by 2 plastic clips that get brittle over time and break - which drops a slide down and they run on 3 cyls. It's an easy / cheap fix but it'll no doubt happen when you're on the other side of town :(

Other than that, they're pretty reliable....gutless but reliable.....

I started out on an across & loved it. Easy to ride, small not to wide if its for a laddddddie. Easy to work on and learn to do your own work I found. Of course the ability to carry cans or lip gloss is something I still miss ;)

However, it is a Suzuki so would you expect anything more?

As Hillsy stated the carb slides are a problem on these things. They will wear out every 30-35,000 kms. From memory they are about $5 each so throw a couple in the trunk. They responed really well to a pipe and a re-jet. On higher km examples watch for cracked or broken frames, You can pick this by holding the front brake on and bruncing the front of the bike, if there is any frame damage the trunk lid and bucket will flex. I have seen a few do it over the years. Avoid any that have been/are repairable write offs for this reason. Faulty trunk and fuel flap relays aren't cheap, there use one unit for both. Hope that helps

As a Suzuki mechanic Ill let ya know $5 is a slight exaduration and they get louder with a pipe not faster ,4 cylinders with only 2 carbies be them twin throated never worked in my opinion, it is the 250 version of the 750f ugly ,if you are lookin in this size range have a look at a GSF 250 bandit they have that harris / spondon look to the frame and with an RGV front end and jacked tail could look quite the goods .
Good luck and happy fightering.

which way was I out with the price? I have done quite a few rejets on them and they do make noticable gains in power. If you don't jet them then yes it is just noise (not many branded shops or owners tend to bother tuning them right). I do personally prefer the look of the bandit, Oldskool, have you had many dramas with the variable valve set ups? Now that they are getting higher in the kms. We had one come through work with top end noise but they didn't want to spend any money on it. So I never got to find out what was wrong.

They suffer from cam chain noise and flog out tensioners from L platers floggin the cunt out of them because they are slow and Gay, saying that seen them used as stunt pigs for learners and hold up allright.
Price, not everyone can do that job themselves and if they did would probably fuck it up so paying a monkey to do it for you would cost and even if you did do it yourself you would be paying retail for your parts not trade so more than $5 see.

oldskool: replaced my mates ones for him only a couple months ago, picked the sliders up for $4.20 each from Peter Stevens, and that was retail.. I believe someone would have to be rather dimwitted to stuff up a slider replacement, but hey, i guess there are a few of them out there.

I've ridden his Across, and while its great as a learning bike, or even a city/town bike, anything that involves lots of highway use, it is rather useless. However, they are cheap on fuel, and enough balls to keep you happy locally.

He is actually selling his, so if you're still looking for one, and if you're in Vic, contact me and i can pass on details.
