Hey all,

Am wondering when buying a new motor (SV1000) to throw into a totally dif bike, what to buy. 1st the motor yep thats a given - What else would I need??

1. Motor
2. Carbs/injection system
3. ECU and electrics

Thats basically all I can think of to put on the MUST list.

Sorry for the Noob question again but this will be my 1st ever MAJOR fighter mod.

Also how much would you guys expect to pay for a conversion like this? and how much would you expect to pay for the motor?

AND..... what are your opinions on Twins? the Suki SV motor seems to be everyones Fav for reliability, are there any others that i should look at? Its going into a Duke Moster frame.

Cheers

BOH

i think buying a whole wreck would be the way to go
then u get all the sensors and and harness and shit

i would have a good hard look at all the dimensions first but
i would be suprised if it fit in easily
the monster frames are pretty tucked up

Yeah its gonna be abit of an effort to get it in - isnt that half the fun ??? HAHA

ok i will ask.

Why bother reengineering the the frame to fit in basically a like for like motor?
The SV will have lower servicing costs but when you look at the hassle and cost of fitting it into the duc frame you will be behind. Especially when only bike real bike fans and riders will notice the engine swap?

I get putting an 1100 into a 750 frame but not swapping a 900/1000 v twin for another 1000 vtwin.
Just my opinion. I bet it will be the only one around though!!

I think you will find the TL motor to be easier to find and it will be cheaper. Cant help on price though.

Sorry Most ppl know my bike so i didnt specify - its a 600cc Monster I have originally [xx(]- the 1000cc twin is a worthy advocate [^]for a swap me thinks. I will be doing most of the work myself accept for the mounting and the engineering cert of coarse.

I thought the SV/TL was the same motor???? ive been told that by alot of people the last 2 weeks?????[:0]

Jim from Hand Made racers tells me this conversion can be done with abit of fuggin round - BUT can be done none the less. My other option is another duck engine, A newer water cooled/injected one, But thats may be abit to much $$$

No not the TLR motor, the 97 model TLS motor.

Best one they made.

Most power too.

Has to be 97 but.

If you can't find a 97 get the TLR engine.

Heaps more poke than a SV.

Fimps right. The TLR has the most power and the least problems. The 97 TL1000S was a bitch to keep in tune until the upgraded the electronics in later models.

The TLR had more power than the TLS. And the SV has lost its top end as Suzuki tuned it to have more midrange grunt(supposedly, retune normally means detune if you ask me)

howabout cutting the last 2 cyl" of a spitfire v12 motor i think it gives u about 2600cc & a fucken lot of grunt, fitting it into your frame might b a challenge though BUT IT WOULD BE WORTH IT !

Don't belive Suzuki , the 97 TLS made the most power.

The TLR guys used to hate my S going past them when it was supposed to be the "slower" model.

Performance Bikes in the UK did a dyno run with a whole bunch of TL's from all years on the same dyno on the same day.

The TLR's made more power (all about the same) than every TLS except the 97. The TLS's all lost power every year

but

The 97 TLS hosed the lot of them.

It's power curve is ahead from the start and it just buggers off on all of them.

I agree, pain in the ass to keep in tune but there is 3 or 4 tricks to it and they are sweet.

The F00 ECU is the only way to go too.

No reliability issues the the 97 TLS apart from upgrading the ECU ?

Stocky
02-11-2006, 01:48 PM
No don't upgrade the ECU

It was done to tame the bike down.

The fueling was a bit average but nothing a TEKA or even a Yoshi box couldn't sort.

There is a few tricks with the electrics etc that really help too.

If you end up with one , just pm me and I'll tell you everything I know about them.

TL/SV engine is the best twin around I recon.

My cost 10 grand and (in a striaght line) a mates 998SPS had no hope. Always thought that was funny.

I dont know bugger all about the twins but wasnt it the suzuki V twins that had oil issues when wheelstanding? Ie seizures

Stocky
03-11-2006, 11:58 AM
Not if they had enough oil in them.

Most twins pump into the air box pretty bad if you give them a hard time.

The Air/Oil seperator I have for sale in the selling area takes care if it.

Used with a Krankvent it's an awesome setup. No oil in the air box at all.

Would an Aprillia RSV/falco/tuono twin fit?
http://www.eurobrit.com.au/pages/default.cfm?page_id=35707
Good strong motors, probly wouldnt cost more than a tl.
Or even a VTR, they seem to be a compact bike.

Kinda want to stick with a Jap Twin the the eyetalian body for abit of a twist personally. I'll give em a look though[8D]
