im not sure if you can class the gs as a street fighter or not,
this is how i got the bike
http://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2004%5C09%5C13%5Cbikepics-211420-full.jpg
first on my list was get rid of the lovly purple stickers, put on a modified r6 link pipe and a quill end can, and then i chucked on a sv650 rear shock which raised it about 2" and stiffened up the ride a bit
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0141Custom.jpg
following that i got a srad subframe seats and plastics off ebay and proceded to chop off my rear end
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0190Custom.jpghttp://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0191Custom.jpg]
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0197Custom.jpg
i probably should have done a dry fit :D because the srad rear end is faaaaat, it just looked stupid with the skinnnnny gs 130 tyre
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0203Custom.jpg
so a larger bandit 600 wheel was on the cards, it required a bit of work to get it to fit but was well worth it in the end
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0216Custom.jpghttp://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0224Custom.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0366Small.jpg
next was a bit of a tail tidying
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0371Small.jpghttp://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/PICT0372Small.jpg
the front end was next a gsx 1100 oldskool front end was in order (was very cheap) i used the gs stem but had to get it pressed into the gsx yokes. i changed the brakes to twin 4pot nissin calipers, a definite improvement from the single 2pot that was on there :D
http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2984/pict0382smallkb7.jpg
and thats basically how it looks now(except it has a front mud guard :D
for the future i would like to redo the tail to something smaller, and get an under body twin exhausts,
that won't be untill i get another bike and can afford to have this one off the road :D

Your dead right H the Srad tail is ugly but at least you have and done it, you live and learn, next time you will do a dry fit, but thats what its about.

BTW welcome aboard mate.

i actually liike the srad tail with the rear seat cowl. maybe its cause i have an SRAD. so does it go alright and how cheap is petrol?[xx(];)

I agree PT Srad is a great looking tail just the bike is a bit small for it ;)

Seriously though it looks way better than the oem tail. Bikes coming along great

Mate, regardless of the tail/engine capacity etc, that is Streetfighter building in it's purest form. You've done all the work and gone throught the whole thing. I'm suitably impressed mate!

yeah i know :D live and learn aye, it doesnt look bad when someone is on the bike. gas is fairly expencive over here £0.939 a liter, i sapose thats proportional.
but people over here get crap wages, a labourer would get £4-5 an hour about a the same for a driver minium wage is £3.78 or something close to that im glad im a tradesman and get resonably good wages at £13 an hour, the standard of living is much better in nz or oz but bikes are dirt cheap, i got the gs for £500 but you can easily get them for £300 my mate picked up a 2 year old vtr 1000 for £1700 with 12000 miles on it and all the electronic extars and in pritty mint condition

hmmmz ... do you still have the old tail unit????

I need a the part of the frame that the rear grab rail attaches to and the rear grabrail...

What other bits do ya wanna part with or swap????

I realise it may be a bit of a pain to post to and from NZ to OZ ... but nothing we can't work out..

It's a bit further than that Stevo, he's in Scotland at the moment mate.

i chucked it all out sorry mate, i didn't even keep the panels it all went in the bin, parts for the gs are stupidly easy to get over here. and whole bikes go for next to nothing.
i have the front and 2 rear wheels (one white and one black) and one rear disc, if you want any of that you can have it for postage.
ill talk to the guys on the gs500 site and see if any one has what your after, they'll probly just give it to me :D the uk gs site is good like that.
better than the shitty americans :D bunch of a holes (arogant wanks)
this is how i want the gs to look eventually....

man that looks sweet... hope ya get it done up like that..

Didn't realise you were in Scotland... thought ya were in NZ..

I'll try and chase the bits up here...

I'm still decidin whether to stand it up or rape it for bits for other projects...... too many toys and not enough time is the issue.. :(

Either way the wheels would come in handy.. they're in Scotland I presume??? even the postage would probably make 'em not worth the effort tho.. any ideas on how much??? plus at least the price of a carton or a bottle of decent scotch or two ;) gotta give ya somethin for the trouble.

so the bike is worth doing that too? i gotta ride one of these things! and i mean that. i assumed they must be a peice of junk, but they do look ok and they must go a bit better than your average learner bike....

hmmmnz
02-11-2006, 05:32 AM
what do you mean are they worth doing that too??? any thing is worth doing it too.. its not going to increase its value or make it any faster, i think you missed the whole point of streetfighting a bike..
the gs has an engine that is almost indestructable, and is really reliable, its slow though, its an 80's engine that hasn't changed since it was first built, based on 70s technology, tryed and tested :D
my gs has 35000 miles on it (almost 60000km) and still is running sweet as, no problems starting in cold weather and doesn't blow smoke, a friend over here has done double that on his gs, and is only just in the last few thousand miles started to burn oil.
good no frills bikes, nothing to write home to mum about though :D

http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?board=9.0
some one on there might be able to help you, :D ill find out how much postage to oz is for you in the meantime :d

that's what i meant. i would have fightered my cb250, but for the fact that i get no joy from riding it and it seriously lacks in the performance stakes. but i love the fightered gss. fighters look best when the original bike looks a bit off and it gets made to look better:)

i now jim knopf see him on saturday.. but are you shure you want spend 18.000€
for a custom gs...???
jim knopfs bike is a verry awesom bike..
but for this money i had build a bike like these with a more powerfull base..

hmmmnz
02-11-2006, 10:20 PM
sweet, say hi to him from me, i dunno, how fast would you really want to go with a wheel the fat??
i think the gs is a good base bike, sure its under powered, and there is not really many aftermarket parts for it,
but there are so many of them around that parts are easy to source, it when you do cosomise it, chances are that its going to be quite individual, lots of people customise bandits or gsxrs because aftermarket parts are so easy to get for it. i think half the fun is the challange of getting things to fit :D
you don't have to spend as much as jim has to have a cool bike, he has just taken it to the extreme :D
i quite like some of his more "subtle" gs's
like
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/show-3.jpg
http://www.gs500e.co.uk/albums/Members-Bikes-Gallery-1/Umbau023.sized.jpg
hes a bit of a legend in the gs community :D
