So you may or may not remember the pics I posted quite a while back about the project I picked up...

Well, the project went from something I was going to tinker away with in the shed to something that got a bit outsourced ... the bike has spent the past 6 months at the fellas at bikecraft. Spent ages waiting for the ABM clamps to come from germany, and almost gave up hope. In any case, big thanks to the guys at BC, as its starting to come together now. Did the roadworthy today and off to get the VIV started soon.

So very much a work in progress now ... the poor thing has a bit of added gayness to get through the whole re-registration process, but thankfully there are plans afoot to correct this. Looking forward to a new headlight unit, exhaust, front guard, mirrors, and fitting the PC3 and GiPro :)

Nice start mate! Im sure you'll be getting rid of all the said gayness. Nice pipes by the way, how do they sound?

Pipes are some cheapy lasers I got off ebay from a bloke up in qld ... they are ok, but will be getting replaced with something custom soon :D

Well, after a bit of frigging around I finally got the bike plated today :)

Got through the VIV with the bike in streetfighter configuration ... so if anyone is wondering, no you shouldn't need to return a rep write off back to absolute stock with all the plastics in order to get through the VIV. They were a bit picky, and I had to scramble to get a tyre load rating sticker (of all things) in order to get through.

But all good now, have plate, all rego'd :)

And big up to brad and the guys from bikecraft for getting me through this far, as they've ended up doing most of the work :D

Very cool, but it kind of looks like a startled bug to me with those mirrors & headlight.

If I squint, I can see a non gay fighter just waiting to be unleashed, good job.

did ya get the flashy headlight and ape hangers of Brad also?

nmilne

Yeah, I know ... worlds biggest vtr250 :D

Rearsets are meant to be black and will be getting sent back to be replaced with some that hopefully don't have annodizing that changes in the sun :)

Brad supplied the cheapy headlight/bracket (its literally a vtr250 aftermarket jobbie) and ordered my choice of bar ... which are high bend carmichaels, as I'm trying to keep the riding possie not all that foreign to what I normally ride (a husky).

Next on the shopping list is a new exhaust and headlight :D

Ok, well some more (slow) progress ... after shifting house I finally managed to get to ride the bike a bit ... and found it fouling plugs almost straight away :(

I was figuring on getting a custom exhaust made up anyway, so figured I may as well get it done quickly and get it on a dyno to be properly mapped. So Brad at BikeCraft was nice enough to make up a nice exhaust for me which I think sets of the rear of the bike quite nicely :)

Sounds nice too :D

Got it down to the dyno last monday at DynoVerks for a remap after I fitted the PC3 and the gipro gear position thinggy. The first run was 149hp and running uber rich, which explains the whole plug fouling and running like an ER6 thing. After mapping it showed a healthy increase to about 155, with a shed load less fuel. The numbers by themselves don't mean a lot but riding it felt way better - lost the fluffyness and felt a lot crisper. And hopefully less of the not running thing as well.

So next in the new year is (finally) a new headlight, some bodywork (side shrouds around the rad), paint the radiator, maybe a belly pan and we should be getting toward done ... for now :)

Nice work mate, those pipes look pretty outstanding. And I agree Lance the wizard Sleeve sounds a little humourous.

Wizards Sleeve is Brad's bit of humour, Brad from Bikecarft that is, they make them. Check out his website: http://www.bikecraft.net.au/

I didn't know there was a clean side to the name ... borat would be proud :D

Yes, I know the headlight is still a bit of a travesty, but it will get replaced in the new year :) I think I'm also looking for some new (non-standard) instruments as well. The stock clocks work well enough but seem to have a bit of a tendency to catch the wind at speed and cause a bit of a vibration ... at speeds where you don't really want a vibration. I like some of the slim line units (similar to the type you get for dirt bikes) but just need to find some with decent readouts and a rev counter...

Btw, the pipe sounds magnificent once you hit 7k and up :)
