I just picked up myself a 98 R1 on tuesday.

Here is a quick pic of it, excuse my ugly mug.

Going to stay faired for now, but going to slowly mod it bit by bit, and maybe fighter it later on.

currently has:

Polished frame, swingarm, fork lowers.
Custom fender eliminator.
Single seat cowl.
Micron titanium slip on.
Blue anodized billet alloy bar ends.
Sprint steering damper.
Crash knobs.
Relocated ignition barrel and polished top triple.

In the mail I have new swingarm spools so I can use my rear stand. Also have a new exhaust bracket so I can take the pegs off.

Short term to do list:
Get a jet kit (either factory pro, or dynojet) install myself and road tune, then take it to a dyno to get fine tuned and see what she puts out.
BMC air filter
New front indicators (looking for flushmounts, but have not found any for a '98 yet.
Double bubble screen. (help my 6' 5" self get outta the wind)

that a nice example you have there, not many 98 would be looking like that these days.

and from what i have seen they are very good value these days too.

Very nice.

At least you won't have to swap the tail when you decide to fighter it. ;)

I know they were putting FZ1 Heads on that model 98 - 01 as they were able to get far more mid range pull without sacrificing the top end. They were doing it to the race bikes and getting massive hp from them with only a few other mods such as pipes (full system) air cleaner, and jet kits. Obviously a tuner who knows what theyre doing is the go but worth looking into...

I have actually been looking at people who turbo them.

Apparently they are easy to set up with the stock carbs. If i keep it for a while I might look into doing that, just nice low boost around 5psi.

Thanks for the link Slain.

Ross, she has about 36000k on the clock, 22000 miles, and I just changed it to Km. It is a UK model. A workmate brought it over with him years ago.
