No you cant clear between coats [:0]
Well in saying that ive never heard of any body doing it and theres no reason to and i cant see the benfit of it because its all extra product that your putting on and this just means you may have dramas while your doing so.
So if you want my advice dont do it that way it makes no sence;)
If you want to do it in 2k do it COB (clear over base) that way its all going to be the same product and the way its supposed to be.
Or straight 2k that way you dont need to clear it at all.
But you can only do that if your using straight colours not metalics or pearls.:D
These last to are your best options;)

Is it because you dont agree or that you just read it and realised after that you couldnt beleive that you just sat through it all:)
If you dont agree what are your thoughts on it;)

yeah it sounded fishy damo but i had no ideas. I dont know that ive ever hear of 2k, got any more info on it for me? When i repaint the bike im not going to use the high heat stuff cause i want to clear it. I just have to find the right colors.
on a side note i didnt get it started, carb problems, but it did make some awful pops a few times.
thanks for all your time on this damo!!!
here is a pic of the undertail on the bike

2K is just baked enamal all smash repairers use is and then bake it in there spray booths so any
automotive paint supplier will have it.
Also dont worrie about trying to find your colour take the colour with you that you want and they
should be able to match what ever colour you want.
Youll also need to get the hardener for the clear its a three part clear (clear/hardener/thinners)but if you dont put the
thinners in it its a little thicker so it forces you to put more on and it gives it a heaps better
and deeper look to the finish .trade secret so have a think about that i think it will be your best option.
Just remember your going to have to leave it for at least 12hrs to dry and at least a week to fully cure if you dont bake it.
Can you hire spray booths in the states? might be an option for you that way you can get in there paint it bake and be on your way home in a couple of hrs finished.

no i cant hire a booth. I had a nice setup here until my landlord sold the 60gal air comp that was with the house and brough me this 5gal piece of crap. hvlp was the option before. In the next couple years we are puttinb a booth at work.

Actually Damo, the reason matt hasn't heard of 2k is that baked 2k finishes are pretty much banned for anything but OEM use in most of the civilised world. You can't buy it over the counter in most countries. Aussies must just be tougher, or sillier... or something like that.

Fair enough didnt know that;)

Not too sure about that Streets as nearly all 2K stuff is made in Europe and sold world wide. There is a big push towards water based product but at this stage I think that is only colours and is covered with a solvent based ( 2K ) clearcoat. House of kolor is 2K and made in the USA. PPG is I think the biggest paint producer in the world and is US owned.

that info was second hand so i may be mistaken. i do know that 2k paint can be hard to get hold of for the general consumer though as it isnt legal to use it without a booth and respirator setup. not that its stopped most of us...

ITS ALIVE! sorta. here is a vid of it running for the most part

i took alot of vid but this is the only one that turned out. It idles but has some hesitation revving up. Now atleast i can move on with the rest of the bike knowing it runs again.
it is a bit loud at the moment;)

well thanks guys, i wouldnt have ridden in this weekend only the wife was dog sick and sleeping most of the day. since the bike is loud enough to wake the dead i didnt mess with it at all.

Its alive for real. not done but i did take it out for a very short spin tonight. Needs baffles but sounds really good with a helmet on and its very responsive!! no speedo or tach yet so i dont know what i was doing but i definately didnt get into the power band. The shorty exhaust seemed to help it out down low. Ill update more when i get it road worthy.

a few things arent right, like the mirrors and mechanical speedo but we all have to make compromises right:)
anyone seen rapid bikes this month? Its supposed to be in there, havent gotten a copy yet though.

Hey Matt, string them together, add any still photos you have of the build, add some music and I'll stick it on the vids page mate.
Hey Matt, the original speedo cluster will take a '90 USD Suzuki 17" wheel speedo drive, fits up [the shank is shorter at the top, so it's difficult to tighten inside the Geep's rear cluster cover], and it seems fairly accurate between 60-100 k's, the needle is steady. That's all you need....
shift1313
16-07-2007, 09:23 PM
i ran the stock cluster with my 17" wheel for awhile and ive got a triumph daytona gauge on there now. Im working on a digital speedo/tach but wasnt able to complete it yet, thats what i meant. Thanks though benz:)
