I need to lift the arse of the missus GSX650F up to put a set of dog bones on it. Would I be able to winch it up from the ceiling by the subframe or foot pegs or would a jack under the sump be a better option ?

Hanging it off the subframe is fine... I too do it <s>all</s> sometimes, just make sure you hang it from a point near the main frame and have the front supported so it wont tip over.. been there done that[V]
I wouldn't jack under the sump but i would put jacktar under the sump.. THEN DO A SKID ON HIS HEAD:D

It should have a hollow swing arm pivot ?
(most modern stuff has)

If you have a suitable bit of bar, stick it through
and use a pair of axle stands on each end.

How do you change the dog bones if your supporting it off the swingarm??

Swing arm PIVOT bolt, running through the frame.
Didn't think you'd be pulling the arm out of the bike to change the linkage !

Thanks, this may just be the way to do it, but if it isnt hollow I'll just winch it off the subframe, thanks again.

Just went and checked, the swingarm pivot isnt hollow on this bike, it is on the gsxr but not the gsxf, so the subframe it is.

Sorry.

Got 3 and a "pile of bits" all have hollow spindles.
I thought it was pretty standard.

I stand corrected..;)

If yur footpegs are solid, you could stand them on axle stands.

Take the tank off & plastics off then lay the bike on it's side works fine too . Thats what I used to do before I had proper bike lifts & such . Just takes abit of advanced thought as to which side the bolts exit but otherwise a piece of piss .

If it's a GSXF why not just put it on the centre stand?

StuNVA

No centre stang on the 650, its an $450 option.

I lifted it ok using the subframe, but fucked if I could even budge those bolts, used a rattle gun, breaker bar, they just wouldnt budge. Any tips, I have never been unable to undo a bolt before, when I use an extension I loose all the grunt and risk burring the head. Would a big arse rattle gun be the go, i might be able to find one of them at one of the truck yards.

fuck hey maybe a bit of locktite on the cunt by the sounds of it i dont like to use rattle guns but in this case i would say go for it ...either that or get a mate to help and a nice long bar for leverage and give that a go
