hey guys, this is gonna be a slow, basic build... thought i'd start sooner rather than later... the fairing (except the top section, until i can get headlight and blinkers sorted) came off today in a burst of energy.
http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1242343204.jpg

Me: "Look what I did!!!!"
The Wife: "Now why would you go and do that to a perfectly good bike?"
Me: (with puffed-up chest, proud as can be),"I'm gonna streetfighter it!"
The Wife: (rolls eyes) "o.k dear... don't hurt yourself... "
http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1242326979.jpg

that'll do for now... gotta source the parts in the coming week or two... not gonna be a major build, just headlight unit, mx bars, bar-end mirrors, and new dash...

I know i'll have to get new brake lines for the front, and i think my clutch cable will have enough room... i think all my wiring will reach... anyone know of any serious snags i'm gonna hit and wants to give me a heads up??? ;)

anyways, that's all from me... i'm off to ride this baby to work...

shiny side up,
Duane.

No serious snags with a oil cooled GSXR mate. It should be a breeze. Just shout out when you do a bit at a time if you get stuck.

The hardest part is know when your finished and knowing when to stop changing stuff... The real answer is never...
Just get all the parts you want then work out how they fit...

ok guys, complete noob question (one of many to come, i reckon ;))

when i pull the top triple, will i need to brace the forks/steering head, or take the weight of the front, or some such really important detail???

thanks in advance...

Noooooop noob! Just keep the bike upright, Padock stand is ideal.
Remove and replace your top yoke, nothing will drop.

Never worry about asking what you think might be a silly question mate, you're among friends and if we cant take the piss, then no one can.

Just kidding mate, I came on here a year ago and was asking similar questions. There are some top blokes on here always willing to help.

holyman_999
09-06-2009, 06:14 AM
thanks dude...

now i've just gotta get some decent bulbs in there... these are only 20watt... and they're a really wide flood...

thinking i might hook a 50 watt narrow (38degrees-ish) flood up as standard, and a 50 watt pencil (10 degrees) as high... i'll play around with them once i've got the globes...

holyman_999
11-06-2009, 05:52 PM
update... fitted two 50 watt 38 degree bulbs... they are brilliant... nothing close to stock... but, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the 20 watters that were in there... :D

also decided that since i don't have the funds to turn this into an uber-fancy-super-shiny-bling-machine that could make a MAN pregnant with it's awesomeness, i might as well make it as cheesy as possible...

it all started with my sons deciding it would look great with a transformers sticker on it... from there, i've chucked a red bull can over the rear shock reservoir, and put an aussie sweat band on the front brake res...

any ideas on what else i can do to completely cheese it up???

basically it has to still function as it is my commuter, but, i'm a bit of a dick head, and i love a giggle, so, any ideas? no matter how retarded, send em my way!!!!!!!!

Holy shit, an update...

thanks to Luke(4130), I fitted up my new dash today... planning on fabbing up an aluminium mount to nestle it down behind the light, and also bring the light forward (thus pointing my lights at the road, and not the cars in front[}:)])

Took about two hours all up... soldered and heatshrunk'd, and lecky taped to the shithouse... revs gave me grief, tried the coil, no love... tried wrapping a lead, little love... then had the brilliant idea (finally) to just use the original wire from the stocker (and FUCK ME WITH A BLUNT STICK, IT WORKED!!!)

I also grabbed some rare earth magnets from jaycar... saved drilling and tapping, we'll see how long they last [:I] One was a little too jumpy, so i've put three equally spaced, and adjusted the wheel circumference to suit. only been for a quick blat up and down the street, will post up whether it's all a success or massive failure once i've tested more...

OK... finally got a chance to look over the old girl... main concerns are the rims, rear brake, and the sub frame... gonna remove the forks and wheels and check all bearings as (from what I can gather, judging by marks on the bike and the ground where it went for a slide/flip it hit the gutter upright or on the right side of the wheels... Anything else I should be looking for while I'm assessing her???

O.K. Finally found some time to get cracking on this fucker.
Turned out the sub frame was fairly easy to straighten, two cars, some ratchet straps, and the desire to fix it or fuck it completely! The rest of the frame has been measured several times by several different people, and the consensus is that it's close enough to not be a concern (within 5mm, which was probably the tolerance when these left the factory :D
Anyways,
Stripped her, now I've got a table of "miscellaneous bits" lol![B)]
http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1288341795.jpg

Started on the tank (that original paint is a bitch to get off). A couple of small dents to fill (spray filler should sort them, they're not that big).

Thanks guys...

I love Steel Panther, those guys are classics... Unfortunately the bike doesn't really sound like that, only through my dodgy camera-phone... lol...

Slain, pm sent, that'd be awesome... even though crashed choppers/composite fibres confuses the f#%k outta me! [:o)]
