Anyone know anything about bike lifts ?

Anyone Had one ? Got one ? Want one ?

Air ?
Hydraulic ?
Make ?
Cost ?
Good points / bad points ?

Im going to do a bit of home work but would be
good to hear back from an owner or user.

I have a manual hydraulic one, absoutely love it. Only bad point id when there is no bike on it, it becomes another place to stack shit.

I have a chinese made jobbie.
Is cheap and lifts even Harleys without much complaint.
I got the air cylinder with it but have never bothered with it.
Easier to do 25 foot pumps than having to wait for a noisy compressor to build up air and putting up with the lack of mobility that comes with having it connected to air.

Next to my tool chest, it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever bought for my shed and is a hundred times better than sitting on the floor trying to work on a bike.

But here’s an important piece of advice that I have learned the hard way (two times now because I’m a dumb arse).
Never leave the weight of a raised bike on just the hydraulic cylinder alone.
Meaning, when you lift it up, make sure you put the locating rods in and lower the lift down onto the rods or pins or whatever.
I neglected to do this and left the bike on the lift raised up in the air, what happened than was that all the pressure against the little actuating piston (the one that the foot pump connects to) was too much for it and it popped out.
Which meant I couldn’t use the fucking thing until I tipped it on it’s side and removed and refitted it.
Once it happened a second time, I had to refill the ram as well to replace the oil I lost before it would lift all the way up.
So don’t do that.

Edit*** Oh yeah, cost about $600 but that was including freight to WA.
Turns out you can buy them from quite a few places around here now.
I think normally it's about $450.
Fuck knows what brand. But it's red, does that help :D

If you can steal or make a bench about 4-500mm high, you can just use a ramp to run the bike up.

Perfect height to sit around <s>drinking</s> working on your bike.

I was going to ask that.
Didnt think when it was up you'd have to leave it held by air/hydraulic.
Guessed you could "lock it up" and drop preasure.

Thanks.

I have one of the foot hydraulic powered ones that Hare & Forbes were selling for $275 . While it has it's faults I really like it alot and intend to keep it when I move house . Had to modify it to take anchor points and it's too short for some bikes but otherwise I love it.

Jaw's only open to about 175mm so won't take a decent
rear wheel but its a 5 minute job to drill 4 holes and move
one side of the bolt on clamp over so it WILL take a 200 rear
and I can reverse the Busa / B-King in if im pulling the front out.

I have the same lift.Best thing i ever bought just make sore you remove both safety pins. It's no so bad if you leave in the bottom one in but if you leave the top one by it's self the lift will twist and scare the shit out of you. Been there dun that, not so good.I also lower the platform on to the lower safety tube to take the weight of the ram

Front paddock stand / Steering head lifter.

Something else I should have bought years a go.
