View Full Version : Childrens Python Auction (Ended) - "Tadpole Fund"

Kris (Username Elapid and licensed snake breeder) has generously donated a snake for us to auction to current or potential snake owners.

All proceeds will go to Amanda Hansord (wife of recently deceased member Jeremy Hansord - Bullfrog) to go towards "The Tadpole" fund. (Amanda became pregnant just before Jeremy was killed and the child already has a nickname of The Tadpole!)

The snake is a 4 month old Childrens Python and is ready to go, it is a great feeder and is in great health. It is about 7 or 8 inches long.

Who ever gets the snake needs to get a recreational wildlife permit from their states EPA/Wildlife service. In QLD (for example) it costs $60 and the permit lasts 5 years.

Kris will cover the cost of freight(usually $60-70) and will supply a care sheet for the snake and any follow up advice if needed, plus advice on caging requirements so even if you have never owned a snake before you will have all your questions answered.

As a guide Kris told me these snakes usually sell for around $250 - $300.

Here is a photo of the cool little kritter for you to see him:

PLEASE: ONLY SERIOUS BIDDERS AND REPLIES AS THIS IS FOR A VERY WORTHY CAUSE.

The auction will run for 1 week and genuine questions will be read and answered by Kris in this topic.

ALL proceeds go to "The Tadpole Fund".

It'll be good with kids, they can be a little snappy but nothing to worry about. Only get to about 1m long too.

Yeah, what Lucas said. They are a small snake only reaching the 1 metre mark. At the size it is now they shouldn't be handled to much as they are a bit delicate. So far this one has been very placid and will more than likely stay this way. The main reason they bite is when they feel threatened, so be gentle with it and should be fine. At the size it is now it won't even draw blood if it was to bite.
Any questions about it I am happy to answer and can be contacted on 0407 372 895 if need be.

Kris.

Mike, a terarrium that is 3 foot long x 2 foot wide and 1 1/2 foot is as big as they require. Fish tanks aren't really well suited for snakes as being all glass as they are hard to keep at a constant temp and glass sides make the snake feel exposed. Cages made out of melamime or marinne ply are best. A vent up on both ends and a low wattage bulb up one end so the snake has a hot and cold end is required so the animal can move to the temperature it feels most compfortable in. The warm end of the cage should be 30 degrees and the cool end a little bit cooler, like 28 degrees. They should also have a few hide boxes so it can escape and feel safe when it wants. They can be small terracotta pots(cheap) or hides that are meant to look natural(expensive for what they are) from a pet shop, and the snake will need bigger ones as it grows. Also water should be provided all the time.

Flooring for the cage can be as simple as news paper-cheap, but the snake will spend most of its time under it, or marine carpet. Marine carpet will have to me washed every couple of weeks to the smell of urine/faeces doesn't overpower the enclosure. Don't use astro turf because the "blades" of gras are exactly that- blades, and can damage the snake when it takes a shit. That is fair dinkum, the blades can cut the snakes bum and cause ulcers.

Feeding is very easy, this snake is eating fuzzy rats now and only needs to be fed every 7 to 10 days. If it's eyes look grey(that is the sign that it is about to shed) don't offer it food as they usually don't eat at this point. Once it sheds, wait a day or two before offering it food and start the feeding every 7 to 10 days again from that point.

Make sure the cage has no gaps bigger than 2mm as the sneaky little pricks are masters of escape.

Cheers,

Kris.

Just made some enquiries and found people from WA cannot bid on the Python. Due to C.A.L.M.s backward rules no python can be imported into WA. And that is also the case for Tasmanians too apparently.
Sorry fellas and fellaettes.

I am actually quite relieved the WA guys can't bid. I was paranoid that it would end up on my doorstep.

Gsxar my rules for pets are that they must have legs, be longer than 30cm when fully grown and stand taller than 15cm. I figure that way it rules out snakes, lizards, spiders, rats and mice.

silly part is you can apply for a licence here in w.a. and even go to pet magic in cannington and buy reptiles. had my eye on a full grown male frill neck lizard but the wife said it her or the lizard. if only i could teach the lizard to cook

Yeah, you can keep retiles in WA but only animals fron WA. Still, you've got a nice selection of animals there to choose from. Go and get yourself a Pilbara Olive Python pervy. Your wife will love it, they only hit the 6 meter mark.

Thanks a lot everyone for doing getting this going. Got a couple of days to go.
I've just paired a few of my breeder animals together for the coming season, so fingers crossed I get a few clutches. Once hatchies from the coming season are established I will donate a few more animals for this cause and the "Save the AFR".
Thanks,

Kris.

Mel, my missus saw the photo of you "recharging your batteries" yesterday and is surprised there isn't countless women lining up at your door to play with your python. We don't want to know why you want Morry to play with your "pants python". And if he does, photos ARE NOT NECCESSARY!

One day to go fellas and fellaettes.

Ok, that about sums it up. Mike (little Large) you are now the proud owner of a Childrens Python. Thanks heaps for your support of this cause mate and I hope the snake turns out to be an enjoyable adventure mate. I'm sure Kris will help out where ever needed.

If you could make the deposit direct to Amanada's account it would save time. The details are in this topic mate: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15028

If one of the WA guys could confirm with Amanda that the money arrived safely I (and Mike also) would appreciate it.

Can I leave it to you guys (Mike and Kris) to sort it from here? If can help at all just say the word.

Thanks once again to Kris and Mike - champions guys!

Billy has hit the nail on the head guys.
I knew you were all awesome when I met some of you in Casino last year but the support over this last month has just been fantastic and Jeremy would be so proud of everyone.
Jeremy wore the ASF logo with pride as should all of you.

Little Large - we'll have to swap some photos as our newest additions grow. I am still quite happy not to meet yours in person though. Thanks.

Kris - I have been blown away with everything everyone has done to help me in their small way and you have just proven that the ASF guys will do whatever and however to help each other. Thanks.

Thanks to everybody for adding their bids. Mike, give me a call 0407 372 895 and we'll sort delivery out.
Just had a look at some of the pairs of snakes I have put together and they are doing it "Snakey Style" so down the track there will be a few more animals up for grabs.
Thanks again, you are a great bunch and I am proud to be a member here. Bring on the ride to Perth.

Kris.
