Not sure about 2nd hand stuff,
but new stuff from a shop or trader should not be charging VAT/GST.

Last set of Renthals took 5 days to get here.
No VAT in the UK, no GST or import duty here
as they came in as a personal/private use and
were under the $$$ cut of point of paying tax.

Not had much to do with this,
so im interested to find out more too.

http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/taxation/vat/how_vat_works/index_en.htm

quote:What is VAT?

The Value Added Tax, or VAT, in the European Union is a general, broadly based consumption tax assessed on the value added to goods and services. It applies more or less to all goods and services that are bought and sold for use or consumption in the Community. Thus, goods which are sold for export or services which are sold to customers abroad are normally not subject to VAT. Conversely imports are taxed to keep the system fair for EU producers so that they can compete on equal terms on the European market with suppliers situated outside the Union .

Some of the UK stores that have a "Shopping Basket" calculater
on their web site automatical remove the VAT as soon as you put
in Australia (or any non-EU country)

Gotcha [^] He will be refunding me the vat...once I pointed out it was an illegal tax deduction. That makes the exhaust pipes $300 cheaper than buying here...the cost of my new mufflers plus a couple of slabs :)
