Jockney Rebel

i dont know how feasible or even possible this would be but seeing as the man[jeremy[bullfrog] travelled all the way across this great big country
..i would like to suggest a kind of rally across to Perth maybe in the future to personally pay our respects anyone up for that ?
we dont all have to go at once,
some one year and some another any money we raise along the way could go into the trust fund for the young un's

..i mean if nick sanders can go round the planet on an R1..
...i will provide the support vehicle and bring the Trumpy

so a run it is ..then
heres a list of the suspects
1 fight fan NSW
2 banditrod VIC
3 zx12argh QLD
4 blue mk1 NSW
5 me NSW
6 renegade NSW
7 zed 14 NSW
8 oldgsxr QLD
9 YAMIE QLD
10 PESH NSW]
11 JAKAM QLD
12 WEAZEL NSW
13 SCOTTY VIC
14 ROSS247 NSW
15 THE MAD ONE NSW
16 BOB QLD
17 AZREAL WA

right then first things first volunteers for specific jobs
ORGANISING RECORDING THE EVENT [including editing it decent job needed cos itll be punted around for TV coverage and promo purposes]

GETTING SPONSORSHIP [ill have a crack at doing a prospectus and dealing with potential sponsors]

LOGISTICS [route planning ,weather reports , accom, volunteer drivers for the vans preferably with mechanical knowledge bikes and cars ]

BOOKEEPING [control of donations and banking, record keeping etc ]

PROMOTION [charity run in perth ,brisbane ,sydney and melbourne on the runup/ or during the big run and distrubution of flyers ,press, contacting local bike groups for support etc etc ]

ill go first ..its 8 weeks or so till the end of the financial year so ill knock up a prospectus in a few weeks and get it out to everyone i think may be interested in sponsoring us so that they can get the wheels turning and get us in they re budgets for 2010

Funny you should mention that - just the other day I was daydreaming and looking at what it would take to go around australia by coastal roads only visiting every major city (including tassie).

Its a long link but you get the idea.

The way I see it is the ride starts in one town you join on as the group gets to you, you keep going until you get back home but the group keeps going until everyone has done an entire lap of Australia.
Makee sensee?

Jockney Rebel
16-04-2009, 05:54 PM
thanks for the interest you lot im impressed
ill handle the logistics but lets keep it as a straight run to Perth for now as i said we re going to pay our respects
5 days there and a leisurely pace back if we set aside 2 weeks for it we should be fine i was thinking making this one for next year about october /nov
suggestions what to call it ....1st annual ASF------------------- Rally [along the same lines as the gumball rally]
as i said i will provide the support vans we send one out a few hours ahead and one trailing and im gonna try to get some sponsorship for fuel etc so we may have to tag a charity onto this?maybe a charity for families ..im open to any constructive ideas as to how to go about this
ie i know why/how/we cant do it i want to concentrate on how we CAN do it.
the AFR has raised the bar as far as getting us recognised i reckon we can do this ..and do it well have a lot of laughs and honour our mate at the same time

Well you guys know that you'd be looked after when you got here and most know Jeremy's wife Amanda, she would be absolutely stoked if some people made that sort of effort.
I know his family would also be over the moon at the dedication to a fallen mate.
We would also tie this in with the WASF Bullfrog Memorial Ride.

And just ask Si, we know how to have a good time here, even if we ARE living in 1987 (go Kenny Loggins !)

As for a suggested date, well we all know Perth has the best weather in the country so anything in the last three months of the year would see you right weather wise. After new year, it starts to get warm, but still liveable.
If you do this, I would join youse at the WA border, and i reckon a few others would too.

It's a great idea, massive commitment though.

danny that's what the afr was all about [least to my mind anyway]dunno if youve ever been to the Bulldog but its almost exactly like the casino event on a larger scale its held in santa pod dragway and has dragracing as its centre ..so yeah it would be a great idea to have the whiole event in his honour ..i just wanna go to where he came from and do the business ...as they made the effort at no small cost i imagine , to get thier arses over here this year

commited yeah i should be ..riight lets get down to cases ..
1.we need fuel first and foremost, anyone got experience in cadging stuff off big companies if so step forward or if you work for any of the big gas companies.i need info so i know what we're up against

2.any of you that work for bikes shops ,tyre shops infact anything you can think of that we'll need any and all donations welcome no matter how small

3.to keep things simple i reckon the major route across the south ern coastline is the go ..

4.provisional deadline is spring/summer 2010..that gives us about a year to get organised

right theres some food for thought ..

for everyone to travel the southern coastline you are just adding days and extra cost. i think syd area should head out to dubbo and then nyngan- broken hill then across to port augusta. bit boring but the whole ride is gonna be like that. qld riders do the newell then meet up with nsw at dubbo and all ride to port augusta together. vic riders to adelaide meet up with sa riders and then onto port augusta to meet up all together then its west we go son.co-ordinate this so we are all at port augusta at the same time.

Zed14
18-04-2009, 06:41 PM
and the fuel stops arent that far apart for it to be a major concern its just the cost and quality of the fuel everyone should be worried about.i have done the adelaide to perth run more times than i care to remember.

erm right so its just gonna be a run then Zed..and im not against that it sounds amazing

we wont get fuel sponsorship for that from sydney to perth is 3945 kms and that equates to an average of 740bucks in gas for each bike so the brissy lot would be paying over a grand in fuel ..

what i had in mind was a race ...endurance style ..from one set point to another each of us pay an entry fee and get registered ..and we get sponsorship form a gas company...
we have timed sections ie sydney to mildura say [about a 1000 ks ]each bike is logged and measured time and the same at the other end ..then its the same next day
so that it wont neccesarliy be the quikest rider that wins but the most consistant[lol i see alot of long range tanks getting fabbed up lol]nad we have trophys for say ...least fuel used .best section time ..etc and of course the overall winner is the bike that makes it to perth with the best average time ...[all the section times added up and well have classes for different capacities to even it up..

thats what i had in mind anyway ...but ill go with the majority

why cant we all start from...say eastern creek raceway carpark?

I love the Idea, but i think summer 2010 is too soon. I hate to be negative but do we really think thats enough time to organise everything i.e sponsorship? If were gonna do it right, it has to be done properly and not become just a big great idea.

Zed is right with the southern roads, adds days to your trip, just remember how large this country is.

Zed14
19-04-2009, 10:33 PM
a lot of people wont travel the distance to get the afr now you want people to travel from melb to syd 850kms. then syd tp port augusta 1500 kms thats 2350 kms. then to perth. when they can go from melb to port augusta 1000 kms and you want them to pay for the privilidge. if people wanna do the run and i prob would im not gonna help ozkat pay for his cause he chose to live in brissie therefore has further to travel. i just dont think people will last that long sitting on thier bikes they will drop like flies. and the further you travel the more time you have to take off work and the more it will cost. i think your forgetting australia doesnt have the population of the u.k. and you would prob have a hard time getting sponsors.

BANDITROD
19-04-2009, 10:38 PM
i with rexie here guys i think it would still be a great ride and in theory we would cover more groung by splitting up and meeting in port augusta and we would therefore get more coverage i.e. for sponsors

Zed14
19-04-2009, 10:46 PM
there are a lot of other issues to contend with as well. insurance for one. im not sure you would get an insurance company to cover this event. too many negative variables. a great deal of bikes mixing with road trains, kangaroos, emus, camels and wombats once on the road west. very strong headwinds, heat and exhaustion related fatigue. long straight roads which are just wide enough for two passing vehicles in places. not being negative jim just giving you the facts if you have never been across there you wont know what its like.

15 days seems to be a long time also

Zed14

also an issue with emergency services if an incident arises you would prob have to organise something with the flying doctors as there is a lack of hospitals across there also.

Jockney Rebel
20-04-2009, 03:23 AM
ok
Rexie ta for the feedback.i dont thinkyour being negative mate they are very valid points i appriciate your experience i also accept that its a long long way to ride if your up in Queensland or Victoria i also thank you for bringing up the emergency issues
as far as insurance is concerned it may only be an issue if its labelled as a "race"which is a good point so the a'run' idea would negate the need for special insurance surely as it would just be abunch of blokes riding across Australia which i could do tommorrow on my normal insurance i dont know but ill take advice from an insurance company on that one ...
ive always been into long rides anyway mind you the longest ride iv ever done was the BSH run London to Faro in Portugal only 2414 ks in 2 1/2 days across the Pyranees mountain range and through the Basque region of Spain
im sure that if Nick Sanders can ride around the world on n R1 unaided then we can ride from one coast to another ..with the minimum of fuss

This is your country you guys and you know it better than me which is why im asking if this is possible.... it obviously is, cos its been done before and youve highlighted the issues that need to be addressed .

.all we need now is people to address them ..
so first off ..
ok then lets get some numbers ..and ill go with the majority

1. whos for the run idea ie feeder runs into port augsuta and head west from there ?
2. whos for this as an endurance race running from eastern creek to perth?
i just want a yes 1 or yes 2
next
how to organise the contact for emergency services in the outlying districts ?how would we organise it and when?

which was jeremys favourite charity and can someone contact them and outline the ride to them [once we ve decided what that rides gonna be of course ]

ive got a supplier for tyres whos willing to jump in if they get enough exposure

Valvoline will give me very cheap synthetic 10/50 oil [i probably can get it for free if we get enough support im told unofficialy from the regional manager]

i have a small bike shop whos willing to support us Nsw guys up here by doing the service work before the ride [im sure you all know shops in your respective regions that will be wiling to do the same]
the WA guys have already said they ll look after us at the other end as far as that goes

i have Phill whos going to contact Snap on for a tool donation that we can raffle off after the event

and im waiting for a response from my own firm Pirtek for sponsorship [along the same lines as theyre land speed sponsorship for the jet truck]

yamis offered us grand in cash ...
So ...thats wher we stand as of now

Sal you may be right about the time issue , its a flexible deadline as yet we can always put it back if the neccesary stuff isnt falling into line

Little larges..15 days? im not riding all the way across there unless i get decent party time lol anyway 2 weeks is a normal annual holiday isnt it ? 5 days getting there 5 days there and 5 days getting back

..and finally if the support isnt forthcoming by say.. xmas this year....?

ill stick my neck out now and make you a promise to do it solo with me on my bike and a driver[probably my brother ] in my van
..and anyone who fancies coming along can join in and ill take sponsor s for the kms we do ...nice and simple.
money to be deposited in the youngsters account

I'd be in for 1 or 2 jim.
BTW i have done a few sponsored ride's for work and have some good contact's for Fuel TV, Shell, Draggin and a few others that have sponsored me in the past. You are right to start now.We will need to let them (the sponsor's) know our plans in the next 2 months, The promo's departments usually need to get there budgets in at the end of financial year, most that i have approached in the past love to help pep's like us out IF you get in early enough that they can get it in to there budget.

Id be keen for option 1

But taking more than 3 weeks of work in a row could cause bit of a prob. 2 weeks max would be my preference if it was a goer..

- had to update my post cause i didnt read it properly...

Might pay to have a chat with these guys also: http://www.nullaboys.com/Nullaboys.html

I'm riding to Perth from Melbourne in October this year and hopefully doing a BunBurner Gold (http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=3) on the return trip.

Will post my experiences here when I get back just in case they prove useful.

Fark, I just found this thread, what an awesome idea! Im tempted to come over and ride back with ya's, sounds fucking epic!
The winds on the nulla are pretty constant year round but they're not that bad heading west, heading back you'll be riding into them on a bit of an angle but it doesnt take long. Ive done perth to border vilage in a day towing a 2 ton trailer behind a tojo so you guys should shit it in on bikes.
I dont know what i can do to help to get you all here but im keen to see this happen and will chip in any way i can.
Once youre here youre welcome to full use of my garage, workshops and tools, whatever you need. We have a tyre changer and balancer too.

Fucking magnificent idea Jim, Jeremy would have loved it, Amanda and family will.

Oh and the Bullfrog Rally sounds like a great name..

I really really really really want to say i'm in for this but will depend on funds and work at the time. I'm keeping a keen eye on it though. Jim when you've done up the prospectus thingy can you send it my way to tout it around my locals for sponsorship? Even if I can't go I'd still love to see it happen. All you ASF blokes and blokettes are truly unreal, it's things like this that really make you feel like a big family. I'm off to get a tissue LOL;)[:o)]:D.
