If you were going to buy a late model bike to fighter, what would you buy and why? Bike must cost under 10K, not be a repairable write off, must be made after year 2000. Yes im looking at buying another bike.

Blade or GSXR or R1

nice R1 on ebay ;) i'll chuck in delivery at the $5500 buy it now ;), gotto make room for the new K1 gixxer
WATEVR
15-04-2009, 06:24 PM
R1 or even a ZX10r
proberly a early 2001 -2 R1 as the bits to mod with would be easy to get a hold of and there really isnt many fightered ones getting around, this is proberly the avenue of my next project.
zx12argh
15-04-2009, 06:46 PM
I'd go with 10r
Deffinately not a 12r - too fucking hard to fighter right. :D
Rob's stunted gixer 750 looked the goods. People are crashing them all the time too so you'd have an open market to flog the goods bits off.

If you are going to fighter a late model bike use a late model Acerbis head light...
these aren't too shabby actually

If you want reliable, useable performance and handling,
and to be different i'd go after the B-King.
(THAT engine, and those brakes..Mmmmmmm)
If you want a more lazy bike to take the Mrs out without
going cruiser or tourer then i'd go nice big solid GSX14.
The popular choice seems to be neither, Lots of folk seem
to like late model light damage Sportsbikes,
GSXR1000, R1, Blade, ZX10 etc.

GSX1400.....just for the physical size of the things.

How about something different like an aprilia falco (nice to ride in stock form), or even the futura, that comes with a sssa as standard, think these can be had for <10k.

ozkat

Yeah i know Pete, i was meant to pick up my 12R this morning but i saw one without the fairing yesterday, it would be very hard to make it look good as you know. The R1 would be pretty easy as would the 03/04 GSXR1000, ZX10s are a bit harder to get, i like the look of the 954 Blade, just not sure how those huge ram air tubes will turn out. I would love to do a twin tho.

You were obviously looking for a while Des,
What sort of money do older 14's start at ?
Just something average, not as tidy as yours.

I like the 1400s but i dont want to start with a naked bike, it gives me no bits to sell off to pay for fighter stuff. Is there anyone in the world that has fightered a TLR besides Fimp?

Yeah, i seemed to remember you had one...;)
I thought you wanted a bike to fighter ?
Naked Busa would be very different to a faired one if
you did it right, and not short of performance.
Plenty of stuff to sell, lots of go faster stuff.
Even in its old frame Pete's was tuff as hell...[8D]
Always an awkward question, what one drools over, another
will walk past. Interesting to hear folks ideas though.

Cheers Des.
Every time I had bought a Busa / Busa / B-King / GSX11 i have
looked at the 14's. I do like them. They dont fill all my needs
but when I can afford one "as well" there might be one coming home.
5 rego's and 5 insurance's is enough for now......maybe....;)
Thanks.

As far as I know, they are just "chunks of plastic snot"
and pretty useless. Would have been better to have just made
the tank bigger than 16.5ltrs than give it Joan Collins shoulder pads.
Maybe trying to be true to the concept bike?
Maybe keeping the rider tucked in behind bodywork?

17-04-2009, 02:00 PM
yeah, plus its more of a factory naked
im confident that when they made the TLR they had no intention of anyone ever taking one apart and wanting to run it without fairings
all the wiring is routed in the fugliest way possible
are TLS would be a much better fighter basis

Good point on tank size. I don't mind the shape if it was all one piece, but they just don't work as add-ons.

saw a early speed triple snapped up for 3½ grand. neat, straight and damn near pristine. not common enough to be different(far as i know, i've got the only one), yet engine parts wont be a problem (though i seriously doubt you'll ever be needing any). however, some custom parts will have to be made. still got great potential

Did have to stop at Beachmont though, was out playing,

Bloke looked pretty knocked about, must have just happened,
his mates were still running back up the road.
I hung around untill the Ambo's arrived.
