Pretty much a budget job to start with. Give it a tidy up, put some bars, headlights, and dash on. I use the bike to commute to work, so need to get it back on the road.

Once it's up and running again I will do bits and pieces as time and money permit.

I'm looking forward to getting into it and ordering some bits.

I think you need to paint the rad' and maybe clean up then wrap the exhaust until just past the collector. Will clean up the look dramatically.

I would paint the pipes matte black, then wrap them to the collector, OR ceramic coat them to keep them looking shiny.

Hey Jed, I've got a stainless Muzzy 4 into 1 system for a ZXR L for sale, bigger bore headers than stock & less than half the weight of the original system, headers are in perfect condition just need a polish, the link pipe has a couple of minor dings in it & a round section alloy Muzzy muffler.
$250 if you're interested.
I'll post a pic in a couple of days if you're interested (the system is on my racebike at the moment & it's at my mates place)

Firstly, the naked dude is a BBQ apron I was given as a secret santa present.

The tail is off just so I could get in everywhere to give it a clean up. I will be keeping the original for a while - I may change it down the track.

TK - I would love to get a hold of your headers, but am on a bit of a budget at the moment. Thanks for the offer though.

I'm still undecided whether to just paint the headers black, or get them wrapped once they have been sandblasted. Anyone here have any pics of bikes with the headers wrapped[?] Also,I am going to give the can a bit of a chop / shorten.

17-04-2009, 09:20 PM
Yer mate they have to be drilled. There a torque bolt so when you fit a new barrel the head snaps off when they are at the right torque for security. I take it your relocating your barrel. If so where are you going to put it?

No, not relocating - I needed it off to get some work done on the triple clamp for the risers & bars. I may have to just unplug it and do the work with it attached.

I have one more [?] Timbo - where and how do I attach my Acewell dash. I don't think I am going to be able to use the bracket that came with it. Might have to make one up.

You may find it's a TORX bolt, the bit for them looks like this:
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/1040180353399747.jpg

If it is go down to you local hardwear store and pick one up, the ones on my suzukis were a T40 size. they're held with loctite so don't try to use the bit in your drill like i did cuase the drill will shit it self. Get an adapter to use it with your socket set.

Hope this may help.

I relocated my ignition barrel and cut off the loop that goes around it and mounted the Asewell nice and center.
I was able to use the supplied mount with a small plate welded across the base. I had to drill and tap two holes in the triple and bingo bango 1 mounted Asewell ;)

As Large and timbo said, the heads are snapped off them, so you cannot undo them. Just takes alot of drilling and they will come.

I have had a closer look at them, and am pretty sure they are what RedZX said. They look as though they have been snapped off. I would like to leave the ignition where it is. So will try to do what I need with it still attached. If I can't I'll drill them out.

If you get the right drill bit for it, its not that bad. Probably need 2 bits, one small one to get a pilot hole, then one about the size of the gold/silver part in the middle.

Get bits designed for drilling hi-tensile steel and you will be fine.

You're thinking diameter - circumference should be around 70" (or approx 3.14 x the diameter :D)

I did mine by rolling the bike in the garage. I put a chalk mark on the floor when the valve was at the bottom, then rolled it 1 revolution and marked where the valve was at the bottom again and measured the distance. That's your wheels "true" circumference.

Yeh thats a super duke headlight!
I think if u dropped ur headlight a few hundred inches it would look heaps better... Also, belly pan looks cool but the sides come up a little too high for my tastes. Too much plain surface area needs a little somethin extra IMO. The front of it looks awesome tho...

I still reckon its one of the nicest headlights out there!!

Thanks for your comments. I had been a bit undecided on the position of the headlight. I may drop it down this weekend and see how it looks.

Ebay - can't remember how much, but was pretty cheap. There are a couple of different suppliers. Check them all out, as I ended up getting mine with free delivery. Others will charge.

Thanks Fightfan. Have been out in the shed tonight and have dropped the headlight 50mm. Made a massive difference.
Cheers.
