Defination of a Streetfighter, whats your opinion? A motorcycle modified for performance? ( so any R1 with a power comander and pipe is a fighter?) naked performance bike? ( so a stock Z1000 is a fighter?) A motorcycle with the fairing removed and renthals fitted? (so a VT250 fitted with MX bars and no fairing is a fighter?) Well????

My definition of a Streetfighter is what ever you want it to be to suit your budget.
Naked and different with your own personal touches.NEXT;)

So its gotta be naked?

I wouldnt call it a definition, but my thoughts of a streetfighter would be a bike that has had the extra crap stripped off, something that is ballsy, semi-naked to naked showing a beasty engine and a wicked paint job that creates a sense of awe. Something that each individual owner has modified to his own personal taste that no one else has anything remotely similar.

Definately not fully faired I think even top section fairng is
fine but any more and you may as well call it a Cafe racer.
Make sense.

My opinion ?

A Bike modified for Performance, looks and most of all "attitude".
Faired, Unfaired, Hyper-sports, OldSkool, Classic Jap,
Motards, Drag style, Stunters, what ever.

All the can's, bars, mirrors, grips, lights etc you can buy over
the counter might get you a poor taste bolt-on fighter,
But the "real deal" to me are when you start to swop arms / forks /
subframes / Turbo / NOS / Bigbores etc.

Every 3rd bike on E-Gay seems to be listed as a STREETFIGHTER,
Im not going to upset folk and point fingers..
But my Busa with TRE, Yoshi's, Screen, polished rims etc IS NOT,
and NEVER WILL BE a Streetfighter to me. Maybe my 02 might be one day?
To me Davo, Iceman, Ozkat, NTB, SpondonAsh amongst many other,
have the real deal.

Its a good topic Ozkat, always garanteed to stir up a few folk ;)

Maybe its a bit like that crappy game Football ?
The Bolting on bits to a stock "Factory Fighter" is like kicking
a ball in the park with the kids on Sunday. Ben, Stu, Ashley are
playing in the world Cup. Same game, different levels.

Just my 10c

my veiw is that a "streetfighter" is a heavily modified sport bike, modified in a way that improves performance, and looks (depends on the eyes i spose). in a dumbed down way its sorta like.. choppers are heavily modified harleys....streetfighters are heavily modified sportbikes...

personlly i think the old days of ripping fairings off, throwing a set of MX bars, tucking a bit of wiring behing the frame and bolting some cheap shitty lights to the front, are way past gone, sure its the original fighter method but, the lines have become so blurred between different modification paths that can be taken,

the factory bikes that are naked sport bikes could in esscence be called a fighter... well, its missing fairings.. its got riser bars, its agressive looking, (all like the original fighter method) but it was made that way from factory.... not streetfighter im sorry to say.

meh fucked if i know.. im just rambling and talking our my arse... do what yas want :P

So if I were to buy a GSXR1100 and put a ridicuously long swingarm on it and ride it like a citizen/commuter, does that qualify me as a streetfighter?

To me it's got to have balls, attitude & individuality but still be rideable.
My Kwaka has the first three in abundance but kinda lacks rideability, i mean i couldn't ride it down the shop for a loaf of bread now could i?
The GS on the other hand has the lot, but i still wouldn't call it a "streetfighter".
I suppose it really comes down to the indviduals personal preferance but above all it has to be TOUGH & NAKED

davo, I don't know who owns that bike in the photo, but with that long swingarm, it looks like the off road/cane field handling would be compromised.

pt
17-10-2006, 07:21 PM
i dunno. it needs to be fairly loud, not have the original fairings, and nothing more than a belly pan and top fairing. it needs to be unique too. like i wouldn't really call my bike a streetfighter except i don't have another word to describe it.

Proper Streetfighters are Scooters, Metric Cruisers or Postie bikes.
Well, ask a silly question ..............

Both the dreadnought and the turbo nitrous busa are not streetfighters as they would be totally shit to use on the road.
They would require regular stripdowns and rebuilds of the motors if used on the roads ask Sean Mills of big cc how much it costs to keep the busa running these are bikes built to rip it up the dragstrip not up the local street and therefore are most definetly not streetfighters. :)

I didnt realise there was a milage/cost/performance resrictions on bikes ;)
The BigCC bike is a money pit because its pushing the horsepower limits,
i'd still love it, and its more of a 'Fighter than some
crappy crashed 250 with the obligatory twin spots and Renthals.

See Oz, always a good topic this ;)

How about we start a topic that goes something like "so are streetfighters the ricers of the bike world?" and we'll see how that one goes?

How come no one's mentioned a fighter needs to be able to scare pedestrians and other road users- loud 'zorst, loony paint, too much(is never enough) horsepower, aggressive styling/combination of parts etc.
For myself, I love riding in peak hour, just to use cars as chicanes.

this is a quote by ozkat from a previous thread.

I think it sums it up nicely

i just had a look in the Oxford Dictonary online and came up with this

STREETFIGHTER... EVIL purpose built motorcycle. built to scare the fuck out of old people, normal people, small animals, large animals, children, trees, grass, dirt, rocks, stones and god himself. these motorcycles are built by men (and women) with very large BALLS. loud, high powered, offensive and usually built by the rider for the rider. not for the faint hearted or ricer boys.
as quoted by the Oxford Dictionary (not really but it should)

absolute gold oz
