Just thought I would post a question about the food situation at AFR.

I probably guess that there is going to be chips and drinks throughout the day but just wanted to know if there is anything planned food wise amongst us for dinner & brekky - ie. splip out for fish & chips, local pubs or even restaurants since we will be there for Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sunday night - and most of us will want to pack light - credit card.

So if someone could shed some light on this subject, it will be better then what I had planned for me and the missus - 6 cans of SPAM, a packet of LAXETTES and half a dozen suppositaries :(

Casino is about 30 seconds away.

The food onsite is pretty shithouse (what you would expect from a day at the footy), so heading into town is a far better option.

I thought the grease burger hole-in-the-wall joint from last year was pretty good actaully. I guess my standards aren't as high as some of you high falootin mob.

Their steak burgers were good and cheap tho the bacon and egg burgers were death on wheels... or that was just the hangover talking.

I have been to the footy a lot Dan and I have never had food as good there as what I had at the AFR last year. Did you go to the last one?

The girls that did the kitchen last year are long gone. The Casino Village people are trying to get someone in to take up the lease on the clubhouse and they are trying to use the event as a calling card. Either way, the clubhouse will probably not be used by us at all this year and if someone does go in there I'll let you know. On site we have 2 catering vans locked in and one that wants to come but hasn't confirmed yet. Van one is Chris with the Cafe2U mobile. He was there last year and is still doing his coffee but bringing a grill this year to do steak sangas, kebabs, sausages, pies and the like. Van 2 is Street Treats who will be doing Ice Cream, Fruit Juice, Slushies and cold drinks etc. Van 3 (tbc) will be familiar to any festival goers, it's the Hare Krishna vegetarian van. He knocks out some good curries and fresh cooked stuff, so you won't have to eat fried shit all weekend. Van 4 is the main street, 2 minutes away.......

Also, anyone looking for a full cooked breakfast each morning can do the daily morning ride out to Bob at the Drake Hotel. He is expecting to see the daily ride group pop in and he'll have it all ready.

Someone is a little over-sensitive.

I actually prefer to speak for myself especially when assumptions are made (incorrect ones at that).
I was talking about the footy. Been lately? It is expensive and the food is shit.

Fast food in general is shit. Food at the last AFR was shit.

I have not mentioned your pricing for the event. You must have me confused with someone else that has mentioned it more than once...

Some of us couldn't hang around due to the fact that we had to work the next day and lived more than a leisurely stroll from the event.

What exactly am I whinging about?

Fact is that a dried out bun and a frankfurt that has been sitting in boiling water for three days is not good food. I am not sure what you normally eat but if you think that is good, I shudder to think of the possibilities.

Useful suggestions?
I already suggested simply heading into town if you do not like what is on offer.

Lastly, who am I slagging off?

Little guy? Nah, the trophy for "short-man syndrome" is yours for keeps.

Back what up? Does the use of your fists make you smarter?

19-03-2009, 08:52 PM
not into fisting mate, but it would be good if you actually made yourself known this year instead of hiding in the background again. And yes i will always hold the short-man syndrome trophy.
