Ok Kiddies, thanks for the replys on the first debate topic on belly pans. The count was 5 votes for NO, and 7 votes for yes. We had some undecideds but the discussion was a good start.

Lets see if we can get more members giving us their opinion. Dont just read the answers and remain anonymous. Have an obnoxious and one sided opinion like the rest of us! Its all in fun.

Next hot topic is Teutonic tail units.

We have all seen the german, kicked up the ass style tail units. Are they the height of custom fighter fashion or do you look at one and say WTF?

These units are starting to creep into the british fighter scene and the trend seems to be make 'em short and make 'em high.

So give us your YES or NO vote and tell us why.

They look crap. Looks like the bikes been hit up the arse.[xx(]

it really depends as with everything. the massive "ive been rearended by a truck" ones tend to look shit and would probably be extremely impractical for a ridden regularly fighter. slightly kicked up and shortened units look ok, but they tend to be modified stock tailunits as opposed to start from scratch ones.

personaly I'd say no dont like them, wouldnot have one on my bike but i do like the short or no rear fairing, just no the kicked up high look

Yeah jack em up. Nothing looks better than the jacked up, shortened german style tails. Streetfighter were known for "the in your FUCKIN face WTF is that" I never used to like em but now i reckon they are great.

Having said that I don't mind the shortened rear look, but actually prefer a lengthened swingarm over a shorty tail unit.

Hmm. Interesting. They first started appearing on the 'Fighter scene around '93 / '94 in Germany. The original bad boy tail piece over there was the boxy styled 80's Harris Race seat unit which many of the new styles they do are modelled on. As this was the first popular tail end in Germany and the fact they needed to kick it right up to accomodate the fuckin' massive number plates they have, it became a bit like the RGV 250 tail piece of it's day in England - i.e. the norm. This became the German look and is still classed as the OLD SCHOOL look with a lot of Germans. I'm sure Frankie / Outlaw / Badvan and the rest could fill in the gaps and polish my info a bit but that was what we saw back in England then.

As for my take on it, I do like the stumpy tail and I do like the height, but there is just one thing that it has to have and that is a line that holds it together. By that I mean the top of the tail has to line with the tank or some other facet of the bike. The ones that are just put on at a radical angle to say 'fuck you' really just look like two bikes welded together - or as a few have said, like it's been shunted up the arse by a truck at the lights or flipped in a wheelie. The ones that are really doing it for me now are the pipes under the tail version. This sort of shit really works for me:

By the way, I'm still amazed by your turn around Shayne! I still recall what you said about one when you first saw it. Nice find with Manny's bike as well. He never did make it in here did he and I haven't heard from him in ages!

Don't mind them within reason - but the real upright ones look stupid.
And I also like to ride my fighter with some degree of comfort

16-10-2006, 06:17 PM
Gotta say I like it, as long as its not over done. TOO pointy is just shit. I'm happy with mine tho.

What I don't like is a fighter with a really straight, original tail, thats just a normal bike with the fairings pulled off.

+ 1 .......:D

There has to be some sort of flowing line about a bike. I don't like the way they kick up like that. And like some of the lads said, better longer in the arm and a stubby tail than a cats ass sticking up in the air.

16-10-2006, 07:12 PM
i dont like em,but i rekon the pipe out the top of the tail is fuckin sic

xjrjack01
16-10-2006, 08:05 PM
Just my opinion but I recon the kick up german arse ends look crap but hey to each their own. I know some guys in the UK that love them, it's a personal preference thing. I myself prefer the longer arse ends like that of the R1 that extend as far back as the tyre does and as high if not slightly higher than the tank. But in the end I guess it's about getting the angles and lines to work on your bike as a whole.

I dont like the extreme ones. I agree with benz, i like a lengthened swingarm rather than a stumpy tail unit. Unfortunately i also like a good set of corners and the length doesnt do alot for handling apart from stability. Anyone have a lengthened arm on a streetbike that can tell me what it does to the handling?EXBEN?

A big fan of Dodge I see Tony. His original tail piece of choice was the CB125 if I remember rightly. Do you have a shot of the cover on Streetfighters issue number 2 with his GS? That was what got me into Streetfighters.

I'm not a big fan of the german tails, when the end of the seat unit is up around the riders back. I do love the massive gap it creates between the rear wheel and undertray, though- but that can be achieved with a slight rise.
I don't know how practical it is in Australia, either. I rode to the gp and back on mine (2500km), and Gix and Supercharger did something like 4500km in about a week. In Europe that's enough for international travel, here it's just interstate.
That's a no from me.

Hey Gix, was it the bike that got you into fighters, or the tassles on Dodges jacket?

Gix11
18-10-2006, 12:36 AM
Shit, busted man. Worse thing? I actually somehow ended up with a tassle jacket a few years before that in my 80's rock days. What a bell end. I gave it to my girlfriend at the time and she slapped me in the back of the head a few times and cut them off.

I like some of the stumpy ones but when there too high, the rear wheel looks a tad queer for my taste.[xx(]

Hey Gix, those wicked pics you put up there from www.fight-machines.com are great. Their front tires are as big as most rear tires!
I don't like super-long swingarms with super-high tails, that creates way TOO big of a void behind teh seat and above the wheel.

I dont like the extreme ones some but not all - like the black one Max put above - I am more into the sport bike tail units. Like the ones Kamakazebusa posted above, raised maybe a wee bit. I am fully into the examples of 7-11's with the ducati 916/R6 -R1 tail units and the likes.

This tail unit is an own build by zaneti an austrian fighter driver...
Some times he had one for sale..

What kind of discusion is it here
do you like the german tails or bellys...
all of us fighters are sure there own bike stile is the nicest.. everyone had an other plan to build his bike..
ok the "german style " is a bit extremer than other ones
but nobody "MUST" style his bike on this way...
and for all here
a new german extreme hard core one (love it or hate it!)
