No! Im an Aprilia tec and the Rotax 990 is one tuff reliable motor never seen frames crack probably the best Italian out there.
The early 2000 ones had a swing arm recall for cracking but they where all replaced.

Thanks oldskool, how do servicing costs and parts prices compare to jap bikes? Test rode a Buell and liked it but just too small for me, Yamaha aust dont have a MT01 demo bike (fucked if id buy a bike without riding it) CB1000 to expensive, dont like the Z1000 alot same for the Bking. FZ1 i havent ridden. Ducati monster too small and i bought a new 900ss in 96, swore id never go Duc again.

I *seem to remember reading about an incident where an aprilia tipped off its stand and the brake or gear lever punctured the frame enough to make it a write off.

I may be halicinating, but the bike in mention definitely had a gold frame

They are a breeze to service & very rarely need shims, the late model ones have single plug heads the early motors had twin plug heads, I have nothing bad to say about them realy fuck loads of grunt and a sound of MC porno, we did have a few that had dash problems but were fixed under warranty pritty quick.
The factory model had Olans front and rear and oz racing rims and lots of carbon the R has standard rims no carbon, but i have seen some cheap factories getting around.
Mate I must say one of my most favorite bikes after Slabbys ofcorse.
