Methinks melikes

What did you make the surround out of Dane? I see part of "Fireblade" in the first pic, so was it chopped up fairing and did you plastic weld or glue it?

Show us a shot of the rear dane.

By the way i remember you asking me about 17" front wheels some
time back ive done the mod now and fitted a blackbird front wheel
got it for $300 bolts straight in using your original rotors, spacers,
and spindle easy as that.

Mate if you can afford it do it its a better bike for it.
The old 16" was good but when the tyre use to wear the handling would go
away and you would lose confidence in it.

With the 17" ive had no such problem always feels good even with a wearing tyre.

Just thought you may want to know.

Oh yeah the bikes lookn real good, love the fact that theres another blade here.

Ah Ben i love that hocky mask light set up you've got me thinkn again.

Rocket

Nasty looking headlight set up!
I'd just spray the tank and front guard flat black and declare it finished.

Can we see it from the back please ?

dane_ra
02-07-2006, 04:06 PM
The back is still a work in progress, thats why theres no pic. Should be looking at next week or two.

atm the front and the tail are only spray canned, front guard needs cutting down too b4 painting.

Also needs a new exhaust system made up.

damo1
02-07-2006, 04:07 PM
Under seat unit dane?

where in sydney are you?

dane_ra
03-07-2006, 06:19 PM
That was the original plan Damo, but the funds may be running a little low atm for that one, so I think I'll go for a nice shorty in the same position as the original but on the same angle as the tail, and with the link pipe cut shorter.

Im in Chullora, near Strathfield, but I work at a bike shop in Yagoona.

damo1
03-07-2006, 06:33 PM
Mate the under seat pipes are easy to do i did mine myself
and it turned out sweet.
i could do it if nobody will.

dane_ra
04-07-2006, 07:02 PM
did you have to heat sheild the inside of your fairing Damo?

Razorback
04-07-2006, 07:30 PM
Sweet, looking good

The Vmax is just too funny

damo1
07-07-2006, 08:50 PM
No i didnt but i put a little heat sheild beside the shock just as
a precaution but it wasnt a prob before i did it.
But what i did do is i had to move the battery and all the electrics
from under the seat and move them to the space behind and below the
carbs and remove the whole rear guard to run the system in there
its no a big deal but it made it heaps easyer to do the pipe.
Have a look at my bike in your rides ive got some recent shots
of the rear end with out the seat unit on and you can see the
way the system i built for it and the way it runs.
There is another option i would probly do if i was doing
another one and that would be to run a real short can under
the bike and then have it exit just beside the leading edge of
the rear wheel with twin outlets out each side i recon it would
look real tough and would be real easy to build up.

dane_ra
10-07-2006, 08:04 AM
Yeah, that one crossed my mind as well, nice little shoty under the motor.

Maybe it deserves another look;)

OK here is the pic of the back of the tail section, finally finished last night... then discovered a hairline crack where I had sanded through a plastic weld... yay.

I'm choosing to ignore it for the moment, lol

dane_ra
15-07-2006, 03:42 PM
Please ignore the canon protruding from behind the rear wheel, it shall be amputated asap... I promise :D

fimpBIKES
15-07-2006, 11:20 PM
yeah, i feel for ya

you should have seen how stupid the tiller looked with stock cans and the destroyer tail!!!

its looking good though mate, bummer to find a little crack at that stage

Slingblade
16-07-2006, 12:06 AM
Hey nice work dane. Looking good. There are too many options for tail units and headlight fairings. You had the ultimate solution........build your own!! I love it. I will be interested what you do with the exhaust. I have been scratching my head as well. Hard to come up with something a bit different.

I have a 96 blade and i am thinking of chopping the tail section (ala bladrod)but i dont know if it is exactly legal. Anyone have any idea? I would hate to take to my subframe with a gas axe and find out i cant pass a rego inspection.

dane_ra
16-07-2006, 08:48 AM
Thanks guys, hey nath, I highly doubt whether mine would pass a legit inspection... I work in a bike shop, has it's perks! So pink slips are ok, but make sure the bike is registered b4 you chop it up, or better still build a new subframe so you can easily convert it back for rego (blue slip etc)

Have fun.

Gix11
16-07-2006, 09:18 AM
Thta's got to be the most upright (german style) tail end we've had from an Aussie so far. I'm impressed mate and I like it a lot.

fimpBIKES
16-07-2006, 09:37 AM
give us some more shots man

if this bike shop of yours is german-friendly i would like 2 know where it is ;)

i think the easiest thing to do is jus have a spare rear subframe/back end
and just swap em at rego time

Slingblade
16-07-2006, 12:20 PM
shit you have me worried now!! I dont wanna go through that hassle every year. Might have to speak to my mechanic who does my rego's. He is pipe friendly but i will have to ask about something that radical. Do you guys run into hassles with defects when you get pulled over??

Iceman
16-07-2006, 01:16 PM
Last time I got pulled over on the GS, the cop told me he never wanted to see it on the road again. He didn't give me a defect notice or anything so fuck him I reckon.

I go to Bikecare in Adamstown. Nice fellas, do a good job for a reasonable price and the owner has a new 1050 speed triple with microns. They are a dealer for quite alot of aftermarket parts as well for a workshop. Like they are a Veypor stockist for instance. I recommend them.

ive just secured a gixr thou race seat for mine.

Bike shop is Budget Bikes & The Helmet Warehouse(formerly JCW motorcycles)401 hume hwy Yagoona sydney.
There's some more shots on the previous page.
Where in NSW are ya Fimp?

Nice work there Damo, so does that mean that the flame thrower is canned? (excuse the pun)

dane_ra
16-07-2006, 08:47 PM
So next on the list of things to do is polish the edges of the rims, and find a damaged can at the wreckers that I can chop up... or if anyone has a spare can they wanna get rid of, let me know. I'm really looking for something damaged so I can get it on the cheap. Haven't been round the wreckers yet, so I don't know what the availability or price will be like yet.

I might post a new topic on that one...

damo1
18-07-2006, 08:51 PM
Na the flammie is still in the process of sorting out the bugs or should i
say to get the fucker to work.

damo1
18-07-2006, 08:55 PM
What sort of can you after?
Ive got one of those cannons off a car with a 2" centre and 4" tip in stainless
Or an oval stainless resinator with a 2" center(its a center resinater out of a car)
but is exactly the same design as a bike muffler in side

dane_ra
19-07-2006, 08:41 AM
Damo, whats the oval stainless one look like? And is it gonna be as loud as hell?

Oh, and the other thing is, for the way I need to mount it, it'll have to be bolt on.

Yours is probably slip on yeah?

damo1
19-07-2006, 07:59 PM
Mate if i remember ill get a shot of it for you tomorrow.
But your dead right its not a bolt on it would need to be moded
to fit ,so maybe not for you but ill get a shot up so you can see it
anyway.

That looks great ... is it high density foam?

dane_ra
09-11-2006, 06:07 PM
Hey K.Busa, do you mean for the plastic welding? Scrap plastic of the same type. I just got a new can and shortened it, just havent got pics yet, but cheers.

Large- Nah, I was too lazy to go and get HD foam, so I was a scab and picked up a big bit of polystyrene from a council clean up. So far haven't needed to sand, so balling up isn't an issue. I've just used a VERY sharp kitchen knife, and carved it.

that head light is looking great. Nothing better than a one off design from your own imagination. Fantastic work, keep it up.

Don't ignore the cracks/splits as they will piss you off in the end and it might be a lot more work in the end.

dane_ra
10-11-2006, 07:12 AM
Thanks for your comments guys, keeps me motivated:D

Yeah Cammy I fixed up the cracks a while ago and they haven't reappeared, so fingers crossed.

I sent a tyre to heaven yesterday at work b4 throwing on a new one, got some pics on the work camera, but now can't find the cable to load em up. Basicly, from about 3 meters, can't see the bike for billowing white smoke;)[^]
