The stock battery is over 4Kg

This LiFe one is 1035g. Great weight saving.

The new tail not on yet? Is the carbon one self supporting? Good saving on the battery, will be interesting to hear how it goes long term.

What's possibly left to lose weight from now Stocky, that's everything now isn't it? This thing is going to mess with people's heads at the AFR. Imagine how many stock Gixer Thous will take you on, it's gonna be good!

It is possibly the easiest place to make weight savings cheaply:D - The rider.

Stocky
12-03-2009, 09:02 PM
That's the running joke. The bike has to keep getting lighter so the rider can keep drinking beer and the performance stays the same ;)

I've got a few ideas for about 5 more Kg. Getting a bit expensive and hard to do though.

Making the rider lighter is much cheaper LOL but I just don't seem to get the same enjoyment from it LOL

Any problems with charging the LiFes on the bike? Or is it all built in? He is using them on total loss systems and I thought Lithium chargers were expensive and tricky compared to plain old SLA.

They are supposed to be fine on a stock charging system.

The Lithium Ion batteries have issues with charging and expence etc but the Lithium Iron are good to go.

Most Lithium Batteries need to be balanced as they charge, otherwise you can fuck the cells up! That's what the cable is next to the positive. You should buy a proper charger from a hobby shop. Something like this http://www.batteriesdirect.com.au/shop/store.php?crn=207&rn=860&action=show_detail They are around $140. Also if the voltage drops below a Voltage around 8-9 Volts your battery is fucked!

Oh and if your good with a Soldering iron you can make your own packs. Just got to buy a Dewalt battery pack and split the pack. It will have battery Cells that you can solder to to make your own. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587606

Yes they do need balancing to keep them in good nick.

They only need it every 3 months or so.

I have a balancer and I can get them for more like $40

Hey Stocky,

Have you got a remote ignition on this one? I remember the Garrison unit I put on my ZX9 was a fair bit lighter than the OEM ignition / steering lock unit. Just a thought.

Nice work mate ;)

I've got a mini ignition in the front fairing support.

It's a little simple thing from a WR dirt bike.

if they need balancing, how they r gonna survive ever-changing conditions of a bike charging system mate?

You only balance them every few months.

Just plug the balancer in over night every few months and they are happy as
