Kev Katana (GSXR Guru & allround nice guy) reckons not to change the 36s for 38s on the Gix 11s because they lose too much bottom end.
Of course he told me that AFTER I'd bought 38mm carbs & new manifolds for my 11. [V]

Nicked from oldskoolsuzuki.info

34mm Lots of power at low revs, struggles at top-end... good for tractor pulling.
36mm Very good bottom-end, normal top-end... for country lanes.
38mm Normal bottom-end, top-end increases... best compromise.
40mm Bad performance at low revs, goes mental untill it hits the rev limiter ( takes about one tenth of a second ;)

Damo, what 40mm were you looking at or have got?

Mate they came with the bike so not sure, but they look exactly the same as the 36mm just bigger.

Why do you ask[?]

Just curious. Don't see a lot of ppl chasing 40s unless they are going on an all out motor.

Probably 38mm CV of the 90 GSXR750 or suchlike from your description.

I've got 38mm carbs from a 91(i think) 750 on my 87 model 1100 with pods, and after having them set up on a dyno, they've been perfect for about 5 years.

Mate do you know what size mains your running?????

Do you have to change the intake rubbers on the engine side of the carbs?? Or do they slip in with a bit of brute strength and lubricant.;)

From memory, 135's. Had the most trouble getting the right needles for the midrange.

Used the intake rubbers to suit the carbs, and the above mentioned strength and lube.

Cheers Hooligan;)

Thats a bit wierd 135s? cause the 36mm thats on there are only running 130s thought they would have been heaps bigger than that, considering that its running filter pods, But mine is running a stock bandit can at the moment, so once i get the can sorted i'm sure i can get bigger jets in there.

I'm serching for more top end at this stage as it's going to be a track mule to start off.

When I had the original 34mm carbs on it, I had 142.5's in those carbs. When the 38mm's were put on, we put those 142.5 jets in the 38mm carbs.
At full throttle, it was a fuckin' animal, but was fouling plugs in 20mins of normal road riding.

I've got a factory pro jet kit here with a few different main/pilot jets, and needles if your interested.

40mm's on 1127!!! great bottom end hit's about 4500 and goes like stink till limiter cuts in, engine dynoe'd at 148 at the rear I can't see the problem ?????

No airbox by the way and clean as a whistle all the way from idle to limiter, as long as you set them right from the start.

Need to fuck with air correctors to get them without any glitches though.
