Gday all you 7/11 owners, im after some help on gearing for a 7/11.

I've just done a deal with Pappas and swapped my wr450 for his 7/11 and i must say i was a little disapointed with the bike the first time i have ridden it, i was expecting a lot more from it especially considering it's apparently got 120hp at the rear wheel.

It's not real strong off the bottom,it wont pull the front wheel off the ground on the throttle, and it even struggles to clutch up.???

I'm guessing its just a gearing problem.

I'm after some ideas on what type of gearing you boys are running on your 7/11's ,And im especially interested in hearing from Deano/Devo and who ever else races these things,as it,s going to be a track bike to start and then slowly transformed into a fighter and eventually put back on the road.

Any help is greatly appreciated as i have a serious need for more speed.

Cheers Damo

what rpm does it do at 100kph. if it sits on 4k (give or take 100rpm) then you have standard gearing fitted.

my 7/11w didn't come up off the throttle either in 1st and i had that dynoed at 130 odd at the wheel with standard gearing.

if you leant back and gave the bars a tug then it would lift but not just straigt off the gas. mainly i think cause when i give it full throttle i tend to lean forward a bit which is keeping it down also.

now that i think about it though when i changed the front end to the lighter k4 it got a little more flighty on the front.

my race bike has a few sets of gearing depending on track but it is set up alot differently and that causes the front to lift easier than my road bike did.

the gearing is different for a start and also a much heavier rear shock stops the bike from spuatting so it tends to lift and the flat slides give a big hit of power due to the accelerator pumps.

hope this helps

I've got a 48 on the back, and I'm not sure on the front, I went one larger than standard, cos with the 1/5th turn throttle it was a bit too violent for an everyday ride.
87 engine, 38mm carbs, 1196 big bore, one dyno said 130 odd at the wheel, and the envy dyno day recently said 152.8, so somewhere in the middle, i guess.
It'll power wheelie from a standstill in first, and second at about 50kph, haven't tried third (max torque in third has me doing about 90, and i haven't got the balls to risk crashing my only bike).
Same as Deano, when i changed to the K4 front end, i saved 4.4kg off the front end, which made things even easier.

Dean:I'm not sure about the revs at any peticular speed as niether the tacho or speedo work.

RUSSm8: I got No dramas with you taken the bike to QLD, but the cuntstabulary may,it aint regoed has no lights at all and none of the standard road worthy gear on it.

OZ750l: 15-44 i think from memory not sure if it standard or not

Have a gekko at the JT Sprockets websight for gearing charts.

Got a feeling it's geared for top end atm looking at the raio 15-44.

Stock is 14-47 which works out to roughly 15-50.

So 15-44 is moonshot to the max. No wonder it won't pull. Good for over 260 by the chart though.

Looks like 14-48 would be pretty close.
