Because the arse just dropped out of the company and they needed some serious cutbacks in an attempt to stay alive (for a year or two).

yeah but that little bike was already on the production line they d already spent the money developing it and was priced below honda and much cheaper than the italian exotica..its just what they needed to bale them out there are 20survivng examples ..but ..a whole warehouse full of spares so it shows they even expected to sell it cos theyd stock piled spares for it
..the engineers also had a 175 single and a 250twin lined up for the up coming learner restrictions and a 1000cc four ,and a 4 valve head for the bonnie ..thank god some of the younger designers then ... still work for triumph now

I used to hang around a little hole in the wall Brit shop and loved to stir up the old "restorer" boys by claiming I had a BSA Goldstar............. my 1971 B25 trials was actually called a "BSA B25 Goldstar SS" but they didn't see the funny side of it!!:D

When I was in the National Motorcycle Museum last year,
there was an inline 4, based on a BSA-Rocket111 / Triumph
Trident triple but with an extra pot.
By all accounts it was pretty sorted and ready to go,
then........naaa...lets not bother.
