Far out, I want one, that printer is freakin amazing. Now sure the scanner is cheap but what does a printer like that cost? Does it do metal aswell or just plastic?

thats wicked ...but what about copyright laws and all that shit i mean you can copy anything with the machine but if you get caught ....what would happen .......it still fuckin rocks though dont get me wrong i am asking not telling

Reverse engineering at its easiest. Awesome.
That printer is bloody amazing.. someone needs to seriously get one locally.. the opportunities are insane as to what you could do with that thing..

I can't see the video but by the gist of the comments I guess you guys are talking rapid prototypes.
Theres a few different types but the two most common are FDM and SLS
FDM Fused Deposit Modelling - comes out brittle and crappy but cheap. You can get one for about 20k
SLS, selective laser sintering is much better tho about 40k last time i checked. A laser heats individual components and binds them together. You can get carbon fused parts that have the same strengh as injected nylon. Even better are ceramic versions... There is a mod in sydney doing turbo protyping work that can print out a model and run it on an engine for testing.
I'd hate to think how much that bastard would cost.
We use a fair bit of it here at my work but I can't convince them to buy our own machine. Tight arses. I'd use it to make my own custom headlight masks and other such groovey shit.
Fuck i hope I haven't completely missed the point of this thread.

I think it has something more to do with the photo of you having your arse molested mate. Scarred for life...
Work blocks utube - its so unfair that I cut myself and wrote some really dark poetry about it.
Dam thats sweet as!!!!,
I seen a very home make one some time ago, takes a bit to set up and is not as fast as that shop one. All you need is a good line level laser and a web camear with a good computer. But after a bit of time you could send it off to a CNC shop for the work.
So if your a bit of a techy nerd have a look at the link.

Just saw the vid and Jay Leno has a massive head. Yupp that stuff is cool.
I'm using metal injection molding at work - that shit is amazing. Its like plastic injection molding but the plastic contains metal particles. You design the mold to produce the part about 1/3 to 1/2 bigger. After you've molded the part most of the plastic is dissolved out and they then chuck it in an oven at 1100 deg for 3 days. The part acts like a shrinky dink and solidifies at the correct size. Fucking awesome stuff.

damn... I want one
Pixar, Moto GP / F1, Nerds and manufacturing. What synergy!
The possibilities would be endless. Imagine in the not too distant future that you are browsing through your favourite forum / porn site and think "Jeebus I wouldn't mind another bourbon / beer / banana daiquiri". Simple. Just scan your empty, use the "Fill" tool and TA DA!
The printing machine reminds me of a tool my girlfriend's uncle is looking at buying and setting up in Oz somewhere - an electron beam melting machine. It can make any 3D shape in titanium or a few other materials. He'd be mainly using it to create facial bone reconstruction plates, dental implants and custom teeth, because he's a maxillofacial guy... Amazing bloke, amazing technology, read about it here:
