Wiring isnt that bad . Just be systematic with it. Get yourself a good wiring diagram and deal with one wire at a time. Identify it, determine where it is supposed to go, mark it and move onto the next. The worst thing you can do is sit back and look at the entire mess.

Dont get me wrong it is still a prick of a job. But doable.

Get some more pics up!

Getting rid of all the wiring that is always found behind the standard headlight is one the streetfighters biggest nightmares. Any relays can be moved to elsewhere. I strapped a couple to the outside of the RHS fork between the triple clamps. They looked cool. Disconnect any idiot lights you don't want and remove the wires to back under the tank. Label these wires here in case you need them again later on. Once you're happy with the bundle of wires left, start binding them up with cable-ties. Start in small groups and work up to bigger groups. You will be suprised how compact you can make the wires. Just do what Boris says...take your time. But remember make sure the motor runs before changing the wiring.
Good luck.

I hate the wiring too!
but do it on your own.. if you had problems with it you know witch wire is for and you can repair it..
the problem is always the same...
i do it on this way..
sit down (with some cans of beer) take one by one wire and two days later it looks like this...

My biggest problem is figuring out how to make my twin headlights work with the factory Hi/Lo switch. The ZX6 only came with a single bulb with three wires going to it.
Each of my projectors have two wires. I can't figure out how to use a relay, wire the lights into my switch, and make both come on for Hi-beams and one come on for low beams, which need to be on all the time in the US. So really, it's not even legal yet. ANY TIPS?
The more tips, the more pics! :D

Hey MadMaxman look here for how to wire your ZX lights http://streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2942 Your diagram is slightly diferent but the principle is the same ( & I can't be assed drawing it again)

YES! thanks for the link! If that does it, I'll bust ass to get a picture of this thing on one wheel!
I'll try it out today.

Oh, and does anybody recognize that spoiler under the pipes? Does it look like it's possibly been cannibalized from another part of the bike...;)

I'm going to use a Supertrapp "disc-only" muffler when it starts getting ridden daily. (after I pass legal inspection with the stock can, of course[}:)])
That should give it a very throaty, yet "raspy" exhaust note. I don't want the F1 sound for this bike, that for race replicas, not Ratfighters. I still love that sound though.(especially 750 suzukis at about 14,000 RPM!)

Since you fellas gave me some wiring tips, I'll post some pics of my new ram air ducts. the're pure-evil![}:)][}:)][}:)]
They look like the're made to impale bystanders.[:0] My dad thinks they look like the engine grew horns that jabbed through the frame.
have I satisfied your guys' curiosity yet?

Here's another way to fix your lights. Connect the red/yellow and blue/yellow wires off the dimmer switch (bottom left of diagram). You can do this at the connector block. This will keep the lo beam on when you switch to hi beam.
Connect one headlight to red/white and black/yellow (hi beam), and the other to yellow/white and black/yellow (lo beam).
This diagram is for a ZX9 (thanks Cammy9R), but I think the wire colours are the same.

I'll post a picture of my headlight diagram from my factory manual. Mine looks pretty different from both of yours. Mine only came with a single headlight unlike zx7. The zx9 came with one, but the wiring diagram is making me sick looking at it. I'm still a liitle confused.[xx(]

madmaxman1986
11-10-2006, 12:07 AM
wait, some zx9s came with 2...older ones. Geezas. Well, I overheard someone saying it's going to f'n snow this week! It'll probably melt since it's not cold enough yet.

that front rim has a pearler of a ding in it. does the tyre still seal and hold air?

madmaxman1986

Actually, yes. I convinced the salvage yard it was junk, so they gave me a new wheel when I bought it. I'll put that on eventually.

I picked up an oil cooler, frame sliders , and an oil cooler sandwich adapter. I'll hook it up after it snows so I don't dig into it when it's riding weather, then finsih it when it snows and I can't ride. I'll take pics of it mocked up. I think it fills the major void inbetween the "toecutter" ender and those beady little headlights that stare you down.[}:)]
OH YEAH, I got the ram air ducts on too. You'll see those suckers as well! I'm starting a new project late this winter. I'm starting anew thread. Check it out if you're intrested. Give me ideas!

HI madmaxman
you wrote in an other tread this
those r1 tails are nice, I considered one for my bike, but there long. I wanted a stumpy tail, shorter than the rear tire.(or tyre, for you guys down south.)
i take some pics for you in that .. look here

Yeah, that's not a bad looing pan. And no, I don't take ANY offense if you don't like my pan. I'm not really conviced mines going to stay on it! If you havn't noticed, my pan is just my old seat fairing cut up and flipped over, so I didn't put any cash into it, not a big loss if I lose it!;)
I'll keep shopping for one that tickles my fancy...

I just got the oil cooler sandwich adapter in the mail. I picked up an oil cooler from the salvage yard too. Looks dirty, but neat! Sorry I han't got any pics up, It's been too cold and windy to wheel the bike outside for a decent shot.
The sandwich adapter should work but the center bolt is a tad too small for the filter. the package says 18mm, but the filter threads on too loose. Does anyone know the size of the threads on a Kawasaki oil filter?
I'm looking in your direction EXBEN...:D
