Had a bit of a fire near home today, went for a drive after lunch to pick up some steel and when I turned around I saw smoke in the hills, went back to work and made a few calls I decided it was time to head home. The roads were fucked with traffic and the cops had set up road blocks on the main roads leading home [}:)] Spoke with a cop I know at one road block and he said I wouldn't get through as the roads were blocked closer to home ;);) but he let shoot down the back street which led to a dead end but I could drive across the footpath and small park and some back roads and I was home. Pretty eerie as it was clear as a bell but we could see Elvis dropping water on the fire less than 500 metres from the house. Stood on the roof for a few hours but we were never under threat. It is very smokey now, probably more than at any stage today. Thank fuck for the firefighters!!!! Thank fuck for Elvis!!!!

They seem to think this one was accidental, started by someone slashing grass in the reserve.
Funny the difference a day makes, sunday in Upwey was a big family day with the running of the annual billy cart races in the main street, bigg turn out with the kids and not so kids having a great time. The next day the place is shrouded in smoke,shops closed and everybody packed into cars trying to get out.
